Last couple of days, wife was been complaining of poor picture on TV3/TG4 but i didnt get a chance to see whats up. Now I just spent a minute checking out whats going on, it appears all UHF analog TV is wiped out, ditto the UHF output from skybox.
Its too late to go into the attic to play, so im assuming its a strong signal from somewhere overloading all the amps on the excuse for an Arfon aerial. But its a real sh*tty foggy wet night, and i cant see any distant signal doing this. -Arfon is zero right now, actually all digital is zero. Hmmmm?
If i hold the aerial cable a few mm from the socket i can get TV3/TG4 etc, and sky output is good. so its an overload somewhere...... has Kippure gone nuclear?

How many and what type of amps do you have? Where are they located in the system?

Have any of the amps an adjustable gain? Is so, turn it down - does it make a difference?

Bypass the amp/amps as part of your troubleshooting.

Are you sure there's not a short in the system caused by rainwater? If there's no signal coming through whatsoever, an amp failure is also a strong possibility.

Plugging a cable out and holding it near the socket could simply allow the signal to be picked up from the outer shielding if there were certain fault conditions, though it's probably not that likely.

The plural you use for "amps" also makes me wonder, there's rarely any point amplifying beyond 20dB and two amps or more would also introduce quite a lot of extra electrical noise unless they're fantastic quality, and more equipment means more failures.

Does the sky output go through any amplifiers or is it just combined with the aerial signal?
