    I suspect many people will recommend "The Country Girls", but I have a preference for "In The Forest".

    I second In The Forest. Very harrowing. The Country Girls trilogy is a classic though and i've seen them in hmv selling for about €5 per book!

    I agree with the above posters. The Country Girls and In the Forest are her best novels IMO.

    Her biography of James Joyce is great. It's short, readable, funny and informative.

    The High Road, Johnny I Hardly Knew You, August is a Wicked Month and Casualties of Peace are a bit dodgy but you wouldn't see copies of them around much anyway.

    The collections of short stories are very good.

    All the other novels are worth reading once.
