Buying a Digital Camera - want to decrease VAT + duty

I'm planning on purchasing a Nikon D5000 from an American website. UPS will ship it here for 70 dollars (which is pretty expensive but it's the only option available).

I know that An Post are usually the safest in order to avoid VAT.

Luckily I have a house in America. I could get it shipped for free to that house, and have one of my housemates ship it over here.

My question is, would I incur any VAT or import duties if I used an alternate shipping method? or should I just accept that I'll probably have to pay extra?

You are asking how to commit VAT fraud which is against the charter of the forum.

But yes, even with An Post your package risk being stopped by customs and they will then add their own valuation and charges accordingly.

    Thats all.

I will just add that duty & vat are charged on the shipping costs too, so best ask for the cheapest possible shipping and state that you understand it will take longer.
