<Mod edit: Splitting this out from an earlier thread because it went in an interesting direction>

20 rounds to score at 100 yards in wind at Comber rifle range, prone with sling from an Anschutz 19xx series club rifle that dates from the 1980s (number 8 for the DURC posters). Tied the club record (198/200).

(not me, but it was that firing point under similar conditions)

Actually, out of curiosity Sparks, who else holds that record?

Bother! After an hour of digging, I finally found the club records, and 198 wasn't our record :( William Walsh shot a 200/200 in 1987, 13 years earlier, and I don't think they changed the 100yd targets the way they changed the 50m targets in the 80s. Sod!
(Still, I won the overall 100yds section of the match that day, so I'm still happy enough about that :D )

They did change them, but I don't know whether it was at the same time. Might be obliged to have a root around the NSRA records now. :p What's the club 50m record, on the modern targets, by the way? Must have a crack at that. Both 3P and prone, if you have them.

No idea of the current record IWM, I've only got the records as of 2002 here, they're at the back of the Match Secretary's report from then. I think noone would mind me posting that, there's nothing sensitive in there:

Actually, here's the 2001 Match Secretary's report as well, just for fun:

The DURC 50m Open was sponsored by Shilen Barrels, who gave us a voucher for a custom rie barrel.

    It didn't.
But Steven was happy with it...

:D He's going to kill me for that one :D

BTW, guess how hard it was to get that barrel?
Answer: It took precisely one letter, asking for free promotional material like posters or emblems or whatever to put up as prizes. Shilen felt their barrels were the best promotional material they had :D

    Apologies for the thread hijack,
    As you were, gentlemen!;)

Sweet christ Sparks, were you the most enthusiastic match secretary ever?! The prone and 3P records are relatively achievable. Nifty, shall have to see about beating a few of them.

    Seriously?
    Yes*.
    :D

And you've not seen the post-match reports I mailbombed DUCAC with (that's the crowd that decided on the club's funding, for those outside of DURC). They were up on the web on the old website (since lost, alas), but I've got the originals and I've attached a few for fits and giggles.

Kept doing that kind of thing when I took the NTSA PRO job btw... and those were some of the first posts on here that eventually turned into the start of the Shooting forums. Just goes to show - it's not one big idea that makes a difference, it's a small idea that you just keep on doing...

    * I'm kidding - I just had the nicest paperwork. I think Albert Jordan probably earns the title because on his watch the club won the NSRA Top XX in the club section and he won it in the individual section, along with a host of other laurels - neither section had been won by an Irish entrant before. But I like to think I did the job well enough, and I'm proud of the few years that the committee I was on ran the club for, because we came into the club when it was flat broke and at its lowest point in a decade for membership, and we left the club with a healthy bank balance and as the largest sports club in the college - and that's important because you don't run a sports club so much as look after it for the people coming after you.

It was frighteningly easy. Shame I never collected it.
