Presumably the $199 for the iPhone 4 is with a long contract and not pay as you go?

I would hazard a guess on a contract:

    iPhone 3GS €99
    iPhone 4 16GB €199
    iPhone 4 32GB €299

PAYG add at least a couple of hundred onto those figures.

you presume correctly. but not really applicable until the irish networks announce their prices.

Of course. Its probably a €600 piece of kit and need to make a decent profit on it.

    two chances.

you WON'T get this as a free upgrade!

what'll probably happen is, they'll give away the 8gig 3gs free....maybe, but probably not!

They'd have to create an 8G 3GS first.

Hmm, all you gotta do is change those $ symbols to € symbols and you'll have your price on PAYG...

was going to buy a 16gb gs iphone unlocked 2hand and low and behold new prices are collapsing as suppliers are unloading stock before new iphone 4 comes out .
would it be better to wait till maybe august September and prices have come down a little.

the way is see it, all apple sellers wil still be taking orders and reservations stil for iphones by that time, i wouldnt count on a price drop by then. maybe after christmas

Myself and the girlfriend were going to buy a iphone 16Gb 3Gs this week on the vodafone bill. €45 a month for me and phone costing €199 and €60 a month for her and phone costing €99. Do ye think it would be better to wait a few weeks and see if this model drops in price with the announcement of the iphone 4 or is that likely to happen. Would hate to buy one now and then see them half price in 2 weeks.

Well not 2 weeks, more like 6. But yes, the prices points will all drop - the second post is in this thread is the most likely cost of the phones on a minimum-cost contract.

If you hang on till July/August, you'll likely get the iPhone 4 for the same price you've been quoted for the 3GS this week. You would be a complete numpty to go ahead and buy a new 3GS now. :)

Unless you are happy with the 8G one, as that will be real cheap, or free on some contracts.

Of course, but the 8GB 3GS isn't available at present. You'd only be a numpty for paying more than you need to, not because the 3GS is an obsolete device (it isn't).

Girlfriend rang the vodafone shop and they said that the iphone 4 won't be available here until the end of the year as we are usually 6 months behind America. Is this true or was he spouting s*&^

Also with Euro Vs $ at a 4 year low. Expect the Price to be very steep.

As far as I know, Ireland is on the list of countries for the July release. I don't know if this will just be for O2 or something silly like that. I am on VF and will be upgrading as soon as it comes out... There is a picture of the the slide from the WWDC event but I can't find it. It shows Ireland on the list for July. I think it may be on another iphone4 thread here....

I dont have the image now but Steve Jobs had a screen with the list of countries due to get the iPhone 4 in July and Ireland was on it. The first iPhone was 6 months behind, as it was in the UK, but they have ramped up production since then.

    July is what we know.

Yeah, and it runs iOS4, so the software will be uptodate. If I werent such a early adopter fan boy that would be my choice until the inevitable bugs in iPhone 4 are ironed out.

But I am an early adopter fan boy.

Are you recommending going with the 3gs until the bugs in 4 are ironed out.

This is probably a stupid question, but if you don't ask, you'l never find out :D

What was it like trying to get the previous iPhones off eBay? Price wise, was it worth it? Obviously I'd wait a few months first, as stock will be limited and prices on ebay will sky rocket.

Actually apple's hardware tends to be robust. However if you want a better model - like 64G , I would be that they will upgrade the iPhone 4 before the year is out. However, stuff improves all the time.
Obviously I'd rate a few months first, as stock will be limited and prices on ebay will sky rocket.

You would only get a large price reduction on this version if the iPhone 4 was upgraded.

Hmm, even if buying on ebay?

Read this before buying on ebay. Sound advice.
