This will probably die on its ass since there are maybe 5 regular Cork supporters on this forum, but this is a thread for club hurling in Cork. First round played this week at senior level and almost every game had a shock suprise. Was at the Bride Rovers/St. Finbarrs & Glen /Na Piarsigh matches myself, here is a report I put up elsewhere:
Was at the St Finbarrs/Bride Rovers & Na Piarsigh/Glen matches.

Not much to say about the first game, awful stuff, Bride Rovers were 4 up in the middle of the second half but the Barrs came back slowly and won with points from Keane and Cathal McCarthy. Glad St. Finbarrs won, even though Bride Rovers had the outstanding player on the pitch with Michael Collins (great fielder) their '12 men behind the ball and roll on the floor for the last ten minutes pretending to have cramp' bollocksology pisses me right off. Curran, Keane, G. O'Connor and David O'Leary best for the Barrs, Brendan Walsh, Michael Collins and Daniel Dooley best for Bride Rovers. St Finbarrs attack and midfield didn't gel at all, more to come from them.

The second game was more interesting, even though it was over after 20 minutes. Na Piarsigh started Sean Og at center back and Gardiner at center forward where he preceeded to drift out to midfield, leaving plenty of room behind for Gould to run riot, which he duly did - cue Glen not knowing what the f**k was going on, their selectors all standing on the sideline scratching their heads and pointing vaguely around the pitch. They didn't seem to have plan for Aisake other then lets put David Cunningham on him and hope for the best - he got bullied, Aisake got two goals. The Glen players looked knackered 20 minutes into the game, Pa Horgan had his hand on his knees and hips and you'd barely notice Graham Callinan was on the pitch. Finally, the Glen looked to have a load of senior players on the bench, not sure what was going, would have assumed Diarmuid Dorris, Anderson, Healy, Busteed and E. Cronin would have started.

Na Piarsigh were pretty impressive - not just the usual players, but the young fellas like Duggan and Lynch plus Gould who ran riot before going off injured in the second half, lightning pace. On top of that Buckley, Dennehy and Joyce were on the bench, so loads of potential. Aisake has his tail up, and is odds on to goal when he beats his man - teams are going to drop players back in front of him, because I can't think of a full-back in the county who can live without him if he gets the right ball.

The second half degenerated into 3-4 fights, Aisake and most of the Glen team looking to fight one at every opportuinity, David Cunningham getting sent off with a straight red for flicking back at Duggan. Looked instinctive rather then malicious but deserved anyway.

Bad as the Glen were, I'd put Na Piarsigh down as dark horses for the championship, they have some serious weapons.

    Senior results in full:

    4/6 – Carrigtwohill 2-14 Killeagh 1-10

    5/6 – Ballinhassig 0-23 Blarney 1-15

    5/6 – Midleton 1-14 Sarsfields 0-14

    5/6 – St.Finbarr’s 0-11 Bride Rovers 1-07

    5/6 – Na Piarsaigh 4-15 Glen Rovers 2-05

    5/6 – Erins Own 3-16 Newtownshandrum 3-13

Plus B'Town beat Cloyne with a Pa Cronin goal and at Intermediate level Youghal hammered Watergrasshill.

Of course, the main event of the Cork GAA season, the East Cork Junior Championship will commence in a couple of weeks. :pac:

Delighted for Carrig. They had some massive relegation games against Midleton last year and I was really hoping they would bring that type of passion and skill to their game this year.Young Aaron Gosnell also came on and he is a fine hurler for the furure, while the old reliables were perfoming well also.
Very surprised at Sars being beaten - Fraggie brought his cork form ( poorish) back to his club, while nobody on the Sars team realised they have to play a high ball ( as distinct to a low ball ) to Cussen i.e. thet never really utilised him.
Erins Own will be delighted to get over Newtown - bit of a surprise as Newtown have a number of big guns playing at the moment, while EO seem to be playing with a fantastic team mentality, with no little skill.
Cannot wait for the hardest championship to win to really ignite over the coming weeks. The premier Intermediate hurling has a number of very good teams and has long proven to be impossible to call.
    Ya gotta love the summer!!

Surprised at Newtown and Sars being beaten, but then again teams raise themselves against the best teams of last years championship, shaping up for a good year!

I think of the underdogs Glen Rovers have best chance next day even after they got stuffed in first round.

Glen Rovers got a bit of a hammering. I expected that game to be a bit closer!
