    Hi,

I am managing a dublin band doing original songs. They had there first gig last sunday in the sugar club. At the moment we are working on getting a demo recorded and getting professional photo's done for there myspace page as we don't have on yet. I have gotten a contact for a reputable dublin venue but dont want to contact them until the myspace page is finished. I have also looked a gigsmart but it doesn't look like the website has been updated in a few months.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I dont mean to sound like a prick but why are you managing a band if you dont know how to get gigs...

as an aside i would worry about the myspace being finished. most venues dont care what you play as long as the money to rent the venue is paid up front. Check flyers stuck on doors in venues around town they contain the contact info for promoters. also just ask the barstaff they may be able to help.

what sort of music do they play?

Is it always pay to play in Dublin? Any venues willing to take the chance these days?

The rule of thumb, from what I can tell:

It is NOT always pay to play, but it IS always pay to play for new(ish) bands...

It really depends on what promoter you use.

drop me a PM and i can tell you who to avoid like the plague.

BTW there are some decent promoters out there but there also some sharks who will rip you off. gotta keep your wits about you.
