So its the season finale which means...regionals!

Here's a short synopsis from imdb.com which I'll spoiler in case people don't want to know :)
The moment New Directions has been waiting for has finally arrived: it’s time for Regionals! But when Sue pulls a fast one on Will and the glee clubbers, their chances at the title could be compromised. Meanwhile, Quinn’s life changes forever.

Really hope they pull it off tonight with more humour than there has been lately. Although as its the finale it'll probably be a bit cheesey...but thats ok too :)

I can't wait was just watching the ad for it n E4 looks good. Especially seeing as
    Sue is a judge
    .

    Hows that going to work?!

Oh brilliant! I haven't seen any ads for it yet. Trying to avoid them :P

Knew she'd have to throw a spanner in the works somehow though :)

.. wow! Did not expect them to do those songs to be honest. Some classic lines from Sue as always:
'It's as barren as me in here!'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

I thought it was really good.
    Enjoyed the songs.
    Some brilliant one-liners off Sue.
Also didn't expect bits of what happened.

I enjoyed this one. As predicted it was very cheesey in parts but as its the season finale I think its allowed :)

I love that they lost and that it wasnt down to Sue. Josh Groban is hilarious but Olivia Newton-John was fantastic. What a cow! :P

The Journey medley was fantastic and I thought 'To Sir, with love' was really lovely. Vocal Adrenaline are just...annoying. Seriously, quit with the dancing and throwing each other around the stage!

Sue giving them another chance was great. She's such an excellent character. And the little tear she had when they were singing 'To Sir, with love."

I thought the whole Shelby adopting Quinn's baby was a bit off. Pretty quick adoption practices over there I guess :) So Vocal Adrenaline will be without a coach it seems. Interesting to see who will take over there.

I thought the Will/Emma thing at the end was a bit meh. Not a word about the two of them for weeks and then all of a sudden its "I love you and you love me too". Hmmm..not sure I care about this storyline anymore tbh.

    Favourite lines this week:

Sue: I have to be honest, Will. I'm having a really difficult time hearing anything you have to say today because your hair looks like a briar patch. I keep expecting racist animated Disney characters to pop up and start singing songs about living on the bayou.

Olivia Newton-John: Brunettes have no place in show business.

Olivia Newton-John: Heart? Oh please, talk about blatant tokenism. That whole “We’re inspiring! We’re a rag-tag bunch of misfits!” thing is so 2009.

Mercedes: You think Puck and Santana will acknowledge my existence if we're not in glee club together.
    Puck: She has a point.

But the absolute best line for me was this:

Sue: I know you think I’m heartless, Will. And you may have a point. I spend large segments of each day picturing you choking on food. And I recently contacted an exotic animal dealer because I had a very satisfying dream that the two of us went to the zoo and I shoved your face into one of those pink-inflamed monkey butts that leaks lymph. And I know you think I’m a bad person because I remain unmoved by your nattering of trite platitudes to your ill-shapen students about how the human condition can be improved by, yes, singing about it! And I’ve proven I can wipe you and your glee club off the face of this Earth. But what kind of a world would that be, Will? A world where I couldn’t constantly ridicule your hair; a world where I couldn’t make fun of you tearing up more than Michael Landen in a sweeps week episode of Little House on the Prairie. And you know what, Will? Sue Sylvester isn’t sure she wants to live in that kind of world.

Thought it was awful... It's been going downhill since sectionals...
Will give season 2 a shot, but Glee is dangerously near the top of my stop watching list... Ultimately it'll come down to how good the new shows are next year...

Is it wrong that I'm rooting for Vocal Adrenaline? :D Their version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is miles ahead of that Journey medley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

Bohemian Rhapsody was pretty epic I'll admit.

Although I liked the Journey medly I was a little bit disappointed they went with the same songs. Thought the whole point was to do something different and funky.

    Sue, as always, is awesome!

The baby storyline is a bit weird. I actually felt sorry for Rachel because of it!

All in all they stitched it up neat and tidy for the next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,755 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

I honestly thought Jesse's voice was too harsh for Bohemian Rhapsody!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,429 ✭✭✭✭star-pants

Hmm yeah, a lot of rushed tie ups there, a little too 'here's a quick fix' for me.

I still enjoyed it though, have to say VAs Bohemian was pretty fantastic, though obviously NDs were still good.

I thought Quinn was going to keep Beth near the end, apparently not.

Overall, yay but too rushed to tie it all up. Loved Olivia & Sues lines in the episode, just brilliant :)

Yeah.. that was on par with how f*cking awful this show has been since it came back!

The final scene of Puck and Will forever sullying Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's sublime version of 'Someone Over The Rainbow' with the Glee club exchanging loving glances and coy smiles... give me a break!

It's unfortunate that the show has descended in quality so quickly!

As I said earlier elsewhere.. since it's came back - it's writing has been lacking, characters are disappearing and reappearing without explanation (Jesse, Terri, Emma), moral messages being shoved down our throats are coming thick and fast and I honestly don't think I've seen a show go downhill so quick!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,429 ✭✭✭✭star-pants

Yeah Basq - I have to agree, since it came back, the overall quality has been lacking, obviously the songs n bits keep me watching, but there are parts where it's a little wtf just happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

Whatever happened with Kurt's dad and Finn's mum actually?
After Burt went mad at Finn, we never heard anything about it again.

Ya, pretty much what I think, they shouldn't have gone near that song, very bad idea.Bohemian Rhapsody was done better than any of the New Direction's songs aswell.

Also, Quinn's pregnancy seemed to disappear halfway through the episode. When in Will's house, it was clear, and then when she was on stage, there was nothing.

As much as I love Glee, I thought that episode highlighted the story-line problems, particularly since sectionals.

The one-liners are still good, but it seems as if the writers write an episode at a time and concentrate on that instead of creating a season long story arc. Maybe they are concentrating too much on the music (which I love)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,160 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

    Very mixed episode for me.

    the good
Sues one liner about wills hair.
    The journey songs
    Bohemian rhapsody
olivia newton john being a cow

    the bad
Sue changing her opinion of glee. (so predictable)
Quinn returning to school 2 days after having a baby

Overall i think the writers only planned the season up to sectionals and then kind of wrote the rest of it on the fly.

Unfortunately, studying Bohemian Rhapsody for the Leaving Cert forever ruined that song for me (and I used to love it)... When Vocal Adrenalin started singing it, I felt like punching myself in the face as a distraction...

That was no medley! they just did the 2 songs in a row

    pshhh!

Liked the re-hash of DSB though

I think its so bad cos the writers are trying too hard now

They must have tried to judge what the public want, and just got it wrong

Im sick of the themes, and He-Man type morals / lessons to be learned

    The songs are crap too!

Heres hopin they kick themselves up the arse

There was 3 songs I think.

    It was crap. :/
Didn't like the songs (actually regionals came around awful fast didn't they? They spent so long faffing around with different theme weeks its no wonder they lost). The birth was a bit of a let down, we saw little of Finn's reaction (also fair woman, back in school, flat stomached as ever two days after having a baby?). What about Finn, Kurt and their parents? I find it hard to believe Kurt just let the whole Finn thing go. This whole second half of the series was really bad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

Thought it was good, but not great. "To Sir with Love" was horribly cheesy; way too saccharine and mawkish for me. Also they rushed the whole Quinn story.

Otherwise, was ok. Loved Olivia Newton John and Josh Groban playing parodies of themselves. And Sue, of course, was fantastic.

I thought they were both sh*t tbh. All the songs in the last episode were sh*t, not a patch on the last song in the funk episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

For a season finale, it was very disappointing. The musical numbers weren't great and Brittany didn't even get a good line when they let Mike and Matt speak! I'm glad that they didn't win Regionals - it gives them something to aim for now for next year, but Sue voting for them was meh, even if it was in response for ONJ's vitriolic attack on her, which was awesome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

I honestly thought Jesse's voice was too harsh for Bohemian Rhapsody!

Yeah it might be just because Freddie Mercury is basically God to me but I wish Glee would stop doing Queen songs. As these things go, it wasn't the worst in the world but pick something less immortal that you could do a great version of instead of a pale immitation of one of the greatest songs of modern times!

I reckon I'll still watch season 2 but it'll be the same for me as it's been since the mid-season US break; I'll watch it when I'm bored and I'll be mostly watching for the songs. Once you take it like that and just leave the storylines off it's not so bad.

Uh, don't the Glee Club own the auditorium? What is all this rubbish about them getting shut down? Makes no sense.

Rubbish episode I thought, That loser singing Bohemian Rhapsody was hideous. How would a solo win in a choir competition? The dancing made no sense either.Jesse isn't even that good of a singer, Puck, Artie and Kurt are miles better.

The Journey stuff was too generic, and I can't remember the other ones.

As usual, Sue was the only good part. Oh, also Josh Groban.

I really hope season two is a return to form, because I want to like Glee. I really do.

I really liked the Queen medley, it packed more of a punch than the bland Journey medley. I sometimes thought that the writers missed openings to make more of some of the charachters story lines. For example I thought Terri wouldn't let Will go without a fight. Also some story lines seemed to progress without any real connecting story lines- e.g. the Jessie and Rachel break up.

Owning the auditorium doesn't mean they'd have money for materials or trips to competitions. They need a budget and thats what Figgins was going to take away from them.

Surely they could rent it out a few times a week to make cash? Figgins wanted to rent it out to AA earlier in the series.

In all fairness, this is Glee world. Quinn went into labour and had the baby during the 7 minutes of Bohemian Rhapsody! I think the adoption process is one of those (many) things we have to take with a pinch of salt.

In relation to Jesse, no she didn't, and it makes me think that Idina Menzel will be back at some stage in the future, where no doubt Rachel will find out about her plotting once they have established a good relationship. And then they have to sing For Good:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,485 ✭✭✭Mr. K

I thought the Any Way You Want It/Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' mashup was way better than Bohemian Rhapsody, much as I love it. Then again, Any Way You Want tends to blind me with its magnificence!

A fairly satisfying finale, still hoping to see Vocal Adrenaline shot into the centre of the sun...

Honestly I'm confused about the whole Jesse storyline anyway... So he was put up to it by Shelby as a way for her to contact Rachel as her mother, but then he told her in the car that time that he really cares about Rachel and doesn't want to see her get hurt. Well if he cared so much then why would he have rejoined Vocal Adrenaline and egged her? And where did he disappear to in the previous episodes?

The second half of the series was just really badly planned out. Characters and storylines disappearing for weeks, then reappearing without buildup and not making much sense... Some seemingly major storylines getting ignored (we really didn't see much of Quinn this half, and the her baby bump kept disappearing - also I thought the Rachel/Shelby storyline kinda imploded). I am also apprehensive about the amount of future guest stars I have been hearing about... I'm not really sure where they're going with Glee, but I hope they plan out the second season properly

i forgot quinn was pregnant during the second half of the season

i think they tried to tie up all the loose stories from season 1 in the finale and it ruined the episode

where has emma been all along

    as usual sue was great

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

I really enjoyed it, lots of great one-liners and I loved all of the songs. It was just the right side of sentimental without being too cheesy (for me anyway). The Bohemian Rhapsody/birth scene was very well done (Jesse emerging from the a circle of dancers as the baby crowns :D) even if it was an unrealisticly fast birth. Sue wanting Glee to stay because she enjoys mocking Will too much kind of made sense in her twisted way.

The only bit I didn't like was the adoption. With all her talk of regretting giving Rachel away, I thought Rachel's mother was going to convince Quinn to keep Beth, not adopt her herself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

I have to admit I thought Glee was really awful for the last 6 or so episodes, but the past 2 have really done it for me. Back to good storytelling and music. This episode was so Nip/Tuck to me with the music and singing while the baby was being born. I was just wondering whether or not the baby and/or Quinn would die in a classic Nip/Tuck style shocker.

To me, the fact that I even considered that Glee would have killed off a main character meant that Glee was more than just a gimmick music show (which I started to think it may be post-break).

Solid episode and no shockers... hope they keep improving.
