    Hi,

I'm currently completing an MA at the moment and soon to begin the PGDE. I have enjoyed postgraduate study but have no real interest in working in the 3rd level sector. Although I would like to continue with further postgrad study relevant to second level teaching or my 2 subjects - History and Geography. I know it is possible to do part time postgrad courses which is ideal for teachers in employment. Im just wondering if anyone here did a postgrad while in employment and what their experiences were of it and if they had a particular course to recommend?

I've done three - two postgrad dips and an MSc. In the case of the first postgrad, it was a night-time one, with lectures/practicals from 6-10 twice a week (I think Tuesday and Thursday). The Masters, I did in my own time - a research one, so I didn't have lectures, etc. The more recent postgrad was in educational administration and was specifically designed for working teachers. I did it in UCC and lectures were on each Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm. A lot of it was essay/project based, so that helped.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing all the courses, and it's great to stretch the mind every now and again - it can often go a bit stale if it's unchallenged in school.
