iPad service options

I was thinking about getting one in France when we go on holidays, but something kept nagging me. So I checked the Apple support website, and found this:

"Can I get my iPad serviced outside the country of purchase?
Apple may restrict service to the original country of purchase. If your iPad requires service, you can take your iPad to your local Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, where available, to make service arrangements. Alternatively, you can contact Apple Technical Support for diagnosis."

Having worked in Apple when the original iPod was released and people couldn't get them fixed for months, or had to send them back to the US, I think I'd be slow to buy one outside Ireland. If they do enforce it, it'll be a bugger......Caveat Emptor and all that.
