    hi all
just moved into a new place with zero tv at the minute. i dont want to commit myself to a full years contract. does anybody have any suggestions? what about free to air? what channels are on free to air? does free to air need a satellite?
id greatly appreciate any suggestions of how to watch some tv without long term contracts

Both Sky and Upc is for a 12 month period. Your only options would be a terrestrial aerial required for the 4 irish terrestrial channels...rte etc

A FTA satellite system would provide approx 300 channels...some religion and shopping channels...the good ones would be bbc, itv, channel 4 etc....a once off charge ...

Depending on where you live would determine what type of aerial you would require...as in some aerials 2 would be required..

You'll have to turn it towards Truskmore. Thats the nearest & best transmitter for you.

Cairn Hill in Longford would be fairly close also and could possibly give you a stronger signal as its the most powerful mast in the Country.
OP, I hope its not a crappy TV top rabbits ears aerial you bought, you'll need at least a decent attic aerial and possibly a masthead amplifier or the aerial mounted outside on the chimney/gable end with no amp might be sufficient.

You'll no doubt have to go the freesat route also if you want a bit of TV choice as all you'll pick up with your aerial is RTE1/RTE2/TV3/TG4.

Yeah Cairn Hill would be the best bet for you as Truskmore uses both VHF and UHF so 2 aerials would be needed, Cairn Hill is just UHF , CH 40, 43, 46 & 50.
Get a UHF group B contract aerial.
