Would anyone know the cost for a patient to stay in St. Patricks hospital for a week or so, and getting treatment from psychologists etc

    Thanks

It really does depend on the treatment, type of care provided and what after care is required. Your health insurance may cover treatment in some, but not all cases. However, I wouldn't overly worry about cost at the start - being treated publicly should be free or nearly free, although that may restrict you choice of hospital. Your first step should be a talk with your GP.

St. Patricks in a private hostpital, and VHI etc. do cover it.
My father has been in there for the last 6 months, (he has Dementia unfortunately), in the intensive care unit. As far as i know it is hugely expensive. But he needs one to one care 24 hrs a day, so it costs five thousand a week.

Its about 15K a forthnight (last year anyway). Cash up front (we had no vhi).
It was for a close family relative ( mental issues / severe panic attacks). Wasn't impressed with the treatment. doped up all day, seem doc for 5 mins once a day. Harassed by other patients (not their fault but more so the staff ), Hopefully you get better treatment.

Recommend going public as it can't really be any worse than the private places (got reports of other places being worse than this from internal staff).

    I wouldn't recommend St Patrick's OP.

Curious why you wouldn't recommend it would you mind sending me a pm with your reasons, I was there for seven weeks and found it great, I came out a hell of a lot better then when I went in and the after care was also very good.

As for costs I got a statement for 27k IIRC, so unless you are minted you'll need VHI, (all you need is your policey number they do the rest).

As for being haressed by patients, yeah some of them could be a pain in the rear end, but suppose thats the nature of "living" with people who need to be ther, the staff were always helpful, and the one time another patient actually started giving me a lserious hassle there was a nurse in straight away.
The staff I thought were great and as hospitals go, it's pretty nicely laid out, with good facilities.

Either way hope OP, hope you or whoever gets better soon.

Asking people to PM you is not acceptable and in breach of the charter.

A relative of mine stayed there for a couple of months. Thankfully she had VHI coverage or she wouldn't have been able to afford it, its very pricey to pay for up front.

I was there for two weeks and it changed my life for the better. The reason why people come out of there with a negative attitude about it is because they were too lazy to bother trying to change. Mental health recovery will only happen if you put a lot of effort into it. All of the pills and doctors in the world won't do it.

I was on the VHI when I was there. There was no other way I could have afforded it.
