Make your own tiara

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried their hand at this? My sister is planning her wedding (and so will I be eventually) and I would like to give it a try. I'm a fairly arts and crafty sort of person so I'm not worried about the challenge, but I would love to do something like this for my sister.

Could anyone recommend any "how to" literature just to go through the basics to get me started?

I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone who has given it a go!

    Thanks in advance!

you should maybe post this in the arts and crafts forum as well. and maybe a little more detail on what exactly you have in mind - ie - modding a plain wire tiara, or making your own from scratch?

i did a quick google and there's a plethora of online tutorials out there but without a little more detail it could be hard to track down exactly what you're after.

you should look out for local crafting classes as well, i know my sister who does wedding flowers did a workshop in bridal hair decorations a few years ago and as far as i can remember it included combs/tiaras/fascinators.

did a quick youtube search for ya:

    part 1 of a tutorial
    part 2

i'd recommend having a look on etsy to get ideas too

Thanks, I did consider posting in Arts and Crafts actually but I wondered first if anyone here had tried it.

I was looking to make one from scratch actually. I saw the 2 links you posted as well. There was a couple more on youtube that were really helpful also. I was really wondering about the best types of wire etc but those were great to get started.

I think it will basically be trial and error, but isn't that half the fun of it!

I ordered a whole bunch of crystals and beads off ebay, there's a whole section there giving advice on how to purchase genuine crystals so I hope I did well!

Anyway, I'll have a crack at it and see how I get on.

    Wish me luck!!:)

well my sister uses different wires for adding pearls and crystals to bridal bouquets - she gets a load of different thickness gold and silver wire from floristry supply places.

best of luck with it anyway, i'd be eager to see some photos by PM when yer finished :)
