Taped polythene as air tightness layer?

Was speaking recently with a timber frame manufacturer and they are insisting that 1000 guage polythene, taped, within the wall is adequate for long term air tightness of the building. Given that I'm looking for a certified PH then this is fairly fundamental.

Have not heard of this approach before anywhere - has anyone else & does it have any sort of certification?

Problem with this vs the 3 systems - see here is that there is no certification to back it up . Unless you use a system tape - others can and do loose adhesion . They may pass the initial test - but would fail 2/3 years later .

the largest certified passive house has in the world is a timber framed building without membranes . Here , amongst other measures , they tape sealed the inner OSB layer to achieve air tightness
