Sitting on the bonnet

Walking out the supermarket there's a bunch of kids hanging round the car. Two are sitting on the bonnet. I pop the locks and they don't move until I'm up to the car and tell them, in pure Glaswegian, to get off the motor. Turns out the rivets on the jeans had scratched the bonnet deeply.
Basically I went ballistic after they gave me lip and the whole gang ran off so I called the gardai. They got the sods.
Now I'll have to stay up to keep an eye on the car tonight as they are all from the estate I lived in. It isn't a new car but the paintwork is pristine well it was.
Point is.... Where do these wee effers get off? They are always in that car park, skateboarding in front of cars and firing footballs at doors. Should I have just battered them?

No you shouldn't have. You should have made a statement with boys in blue who genuinely are helpful if someone's being screwed.

Then they'll try sort it. Bonnet is a 300 spary job...

Garda got my statement and put the fear of death into the kids but refused to go further as the hadn't come under their radar before. I've got the light scratches out with t cut but there are some gouges that need more. I can do that myself. 300 quid is out of my league these days.
What gets me is the attitude of the kids. I was no angel when I was their age but I respected other peoples property. Kids today don't seem to know the value of anything and how much people bust their guts to get aforesaid.

Get a Clifford alarm that screeches when somebody gets near it ;)

No. I wouldn't inflict that on anyone :)
used to be kept awake by one that spoke when the proximity sensor set it off. By morning the battery was so low it was slurring.
Basically the point is that people shouldn't sit on other people's cars. My kids would get he'll for it but most parents don't seem to give a flying fk when it comes to instilling decency.

Some bonnets will dent even if closed roughly by thumbs/palms let alone having kids sit on them !!!Sounds like a horrible situation OP ...No oint whatsoever in trying to approach their parents I suppose ...maybe ask cops who will know them better...

Happened me on several occasions.. The only thing I find helps to avoid it is to reverse into parking spots.. They dont seem to want to sit on the boot of a car so much for some reason ;)

It was the middle of the car park. Bonnet was accessible. I should have parked at the wall. I'd have thought the alarm would have gone off. Obviously Sweden doesn't have this problem.
At least I know the Garda will know who to get if anything happens tonight. All credit to them. They responded very quickly at a very busy time. Triathy today so the Garda were flat out and they were there within 5 mins.

Cheek of the young lads to still sit on the car after you hit the central locking and are on your way over, at least you went the right way about it and contacted the Gardai, plenty would just lose it!

Are you saying that the Gardaí want you to just fix the car yourself? How old are the kids? Aren't parents legally liable for damage done by their kids?

That was always my understanding of things!

Prepare for your car to be keyed now after reporting them....I would have just told them to get the f@#k off.

    Did that first.
Was thinking of the next victims when I called the Garda. Too many people don't report and then wonder why it happens again

If my Dad ever caught me actin' the maggot and sittin' on someone's bonnet he would have kicked the bollox off me, made me apologise and then work with him to pay for the spray job to fix the scratches. And yano what, he'd be right.

The kids on skatebords seem to be a differant breed from the ones with footballs. I have no issue with the skate borders but I know the kids kicking footballs around superquinn where I live are always whacking off cars setting alarms off etc.

The main concern from the OP being these characters taking a revengeful attitude and doing more damage. I would be worried about that aswell but at least you know who to finger if it happens again.

Yeah happened myself the other day, walking up saw 2 lads on them. I absolutely hate people having no respect for cars. It's the one thing that boils my blood.

Around my street as well, college students always kicking balls as high as they can and landing on bonnets. They also do hurling. What's wrong with these people, they should be shot.

Happened me a few years ago too. Was parked in a rough part of town. Came out to find a huge dent and scratches in the passenger door. F*ck£n begrudgers just wanting to do damage. Of course, no proof, no witnesses even though I later found out there were a few. People in the area stuck together :(
