    Fiat coupe 20vt 1997
(The car ran perfect befor the service was started)

After i did a mini service i could not restart the car, turned out to be a the connector for the cam phase sensor, it was plugged in but needed reconnecting, once she fired up it sounded like this http://img192.imageshack.us/i/mafcon.mp4/ Once reved the noise dissapears and it sounds fine, even the dump valve is dumping, the noise is only there on idle.

I disconnected the MAF (common problem on idleing and cutting out), this time the noise remained but she did not cut out

I have checked everything i can, Getting a spark on all 5 cylingers, the injectors are working fine. No tears or holes in any boost or vacume pipes. I wont have a code reader till tuesday which might help, the injector light came on indicating a error is logged in the ecu. Before i get it to a garage on Tuesday anyone any ideas?? Timing belt jump maybe?

Maybe you moved the cam sensor out of place.

Doubt it, it's in behind the Cam pullies on the left of the block,. the belt need to come off to change it, though it is now my prime suspect.

I would check that the oil cap is on properly, or that the dipstick is pushed home properly. Sounds like a vacuum problem in the oil system.

Checked the air recirc pipes and all check out, I replaced an oil breather pipe as well with a new one, The iol breather is at the back of the block, though having said that the plugs were slightly black indicating oil fouling, and they are new plugs. I'll check it out anyway. Is it misfiring or what ????

Its sounds like its miss firing alright. I don't want to make you sound stupid but is there enough fuel in the tank, if its running on fumes it would run crap? Is the engine managment light on?

theres your problem. you must have put the belt on the wrong tooth when you put it back on so its now out of timing, don't drive the car to the garage, you will do damage, it needs to be timed again to fix it

I don't think he took the belt off.

And what exactly did you change or attempt to change?

Yep, never had the belts off, and like i said car was fine before hand, i only cranked it without the coils connected to prime the turbo, then started it and this happened, the belt MIGHT have slipped but i find that unlikley. I did the oil, sparkplugs, air and oil filter, took of the induction pipes for a clean and good inspection, the air intake maniford for same, thats it i think.

Did the car backfire or the engine lock up when you tried to restart it?

No, just idle'd really roughly along with the noise in the video and would cut out without reving it, disconnecting the maf just ment it would idle rough and wont cut out but the weird noise remains,

Thats an interesting problem, i'd have a guess that a fault has being introduced by the connector on the cam sensor being moved.
Did you disconnect and clean it.
Maybe it'd be worth getting a diagnostic done on the car.

Yeah, have the connector i need to read the ecu coming tuesday, looks like the cas, had another going over today and cant find the fault. ECU should give me a better idea. Thanks
