ok... you can take pics while panning....but theres nothing interesting in the pics.

(suppose theres not a whole lot you can do with a boat just speeding along...unless it crashes or driver waves or something)

    Fair enough.

Maybe a tigher crop would concentrate attention on the boat better, cut some off top and bottom

your in the same boat as me lol(no pun intended) you think the photos are good (im not saying they are bad)and interesting but when some one else looks at it they dont think the same or see the same as you
    i like them

i like the way number 2 almost has an edited look to it.

I have done an edit on the first one just as an example, hope you dont mind?

Had a look at your pix.ie and imo would be better to post some variety sort of tell a story about the day (dont have to but helps you advance)

One other thing, the pictures are nice and sharp which is a good start too, what gear do you use?

I like them. I think you've done well panning, and there's a good sense of movement in the images. I also think you've got a good crop already on some of the pics, and they do reasonably fill the frame - you used a fairly long lens or were you out in a boat yourself?

Like the crop on this one, thanks for the advice. I was a little worried about darkening it up too much as it was starting to make it look a little, over contrasted or unreal. I do appreciate the help though.

Thanks. Yes, I think that photography is very much a case of what individuals like in a picture. That is not to say that the technical side of things shouldn't be taken into account. I thought these were quite good, for me in particular, but until you get the opinions of those that have far more experience do you see your faults and that is how we learn and improve.

I see the point made by PCphoto that there is nothing interesting in these pictures. However there is nothing interesting in a lot of sport, in particular, motor sport photography, just a lot of panning shots, unless there is an accident etc., but people make a living from it.

As I was saying earlier the original was a good start.

Panning and getting a sharp image is not all that easy.

Overall a good set of shots imo

Can I just say that some of your photos seem FLAT

    I churned 1 thru Ps

You need to look at the settings on your camera

Well while his shots are def flat your version is prob OTT, a happy medium of in the middle would be good!

Learning PP is very much part of the learning experience that goes hand in hand with learning to use your Camera.

Def a good capture Vulcan is #1 from today.

Bit better, was that a tight crop you had to use? I notice the detail looks worse in both shots PP'd by you and Keps.

what did u do to it on ps to get this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭keps

Actually on that one all I did was go to 'image'
then did Auto Tone,Auto contrast & Auto colour
Then under 'filters' and Unmask Sharp!
    (this is on CS4)

That's why I think there maybe an exposure issue
