Hey i live down in a small town in Roscommon. Speeds are always low and ping is always getting higher. Since they modded the contract terms and i got a chance to cancel the contract should i try o2 or just stick with 3 since there is no other services around?

any one else around have some other ISP?

i know people who got briski net and all them last mile broadband providers but apparently they get charged more for a worse service...

i struggle to load a website...watching a video on youtube is a dream...

you need one that isn't Mobile.

It depends on what sort of uses you have. Mobile isn't Broadband. The 7.2Mbps is peak capacity for a sector (1/3rd area typically, like a pizza cut in three) for ONE person only connected close to mast. If there are an economic number of users, you'll get 0.05 to 1Mbps download.

i don't care really about the speed...1mb would do me, usually i get around 0.8 its ok i dont expect more from mobile broadband...its the fact that i struggle to open a bloody page...ping is so horrible...

The only way your really going to get a decent ping is with fixed line broadband, have you access to it?

Before you move from 3 check out what o2 and Voda are like, they all come with a money back guarantee so you can keep using 3 but if one of the others is better you can move, depending on where you are 3 might be the only one with 3G signal. You've a 7 day money back with Voda and 72hrs with o2. No point cancelling one contract until your sure the others are going to work.

If your having trouble opening pages try running this software and see does it help any bit, http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

apparently eircom is available...but it works on the same satellite principle. receiver on the roof rather than cable or phone line...

i might give o2 a go...its sad the way no one cares about the broadband in the midlands to provide a decent service

Are eircom selling satellite to the general public? They didn't push it on me when I couldn't get on DSL.

I don't think op understands what exactly broadband is!

I fear he's choosing o2 just because he likes the ad's

eircom have always sold satellite. They use other satellite suppliers though.

They also have FWA system, that is as rarely seen as leprechauns and unicorns, Eircom Fixed Wireless. They were to up grade it to fixed WiMax as it was very ancient. But it has proved elusive to actually order, despite the fact they are the ONLY company with a genuine National spectrum allocation for Fixed Wireless Broadband. (If they had got NBS, they were going to mostly use Meteor with up to 8% VSAT (satellite), not the mythical FWA product).

They also sold their masts a couple of years ago to ThreeFold. This doesn't help either. Selling eircell to Vodafone wasn't smart either. But you see they have been stripped bare by Vulture Capitalists since privatisation. Leveraged buyouts should be illegal.

you should try vodafone i had 3 for 10 months and i had to get rid of them i had the same problems as you did so i got o2 for there trial but that was as bad as 3 and i returned it and got vodafone for the trial period and have not looked back as its has not been to bad at all fair enough the very very odd time it is a bit slow but not any where as bad as what 3 was so you should try all providers available to see what one works better for you in your area as they all give a trial period

as far as i know last mile are just as bad and they charge more. they have their satellite receiver installed on your roof. and people that owned it before had terrible speeds on it.

tried to get briski net before i called them and left a message that i want it installed...went to their office and applied for it again...never came to me...

Not Lightnet, Lastmile had issues in the past and that's for sure ....but not as bad as 3g at 2 miles with no repeater would be :( eircom also tried Wimax in Athlone off the big mast there and I knew someone who had it in Cornafulla / Clonowen area sw of the town about 3 years ago. I doubt if eircom offer the wimax any more.

    see
