Extraction healing process

I got my second last lower molar extracted on Thursday,no bother taking it out or anything.

I think I'm doing ok so far,but would like to hear about your healing processes just to see if it's normal and everything.
I would ring my dentist but obv. can't get through untill Tuesday!

    Anyway,this is me so far..

Day 1(after extraction)- Painful enough, socket completely empty, slight bleeding few hours later.
Day 2 - Still painful, but socket filled up(blood clot?),started rinsing with salt water.
Day 3 - Not very painful today at all, well an improvment really, but jaw is very tender(normal?) clot still there, but some white stuff on it,is it new/old tissue? Also,it feels a bit lower/emptier than yesterday..I think,I'm probably being paranoid:p,bit of a weird smell too?

What should I expect from now?How did yours heal?

I'm not a dentist but it sounds normal. Tenderness went down gradually until I just forgot about it. I remember having white tissue also. I'm sure you'll survive till Tuesday :)

I had my premolar taken out 2 days ago, not in really a lot of pain, apart from discomfort, feels like I have a filling except I don't so when I eat, i can feel it (presume its the clot) so lately I just haven't felt like eating :(:(

I have been trying some ice cream (melted ice cream really), just feel odd, have had no bleeding since the first day but just hate this filling type of feeling :(

Yeah I wasn't eating much after either, but the next day I had a craving for crackers and it was disaster!:pac:

Mine's a lot better now, feels empty-ish but no pain and there's new skin growing over the clot I think, mine got better after about day 4 or 5,but it probably just healed a bit slower on mine because I smoke so..good luck anyway, and don't worry, I was freaking out about it too,but it does get better!

Cheers. I am really hungry but when I go to have my ice cream, its just so much effort and feels odd and because I can feel the clot, I am afraid of it coming away.

How often should I rinse my mouth? I am afraid of doing it too much and risking the clot breaking away? Does the feeling of the clot go away or do you just put up with it?

Sorry for all the questions :o:o

No problem,I was full of questions aswell, but was shaking like a leaf afterwards so just left without asking the dentist anything!:pac:

Well I didn't like eating ice cream much because I thought the way you kind of suck it and not chew it that it would suck the clot out, haha.

I rinsed mine about 2-3(that's what it said on the leaflet my dentist gave me) times a day and brushed 2-3 times a day(avoiding the clot obv) but when you rinse just do it really gently like.

What do you mean about the feeling of the clot?
I didn't even notice mine after about 3 or 4 days, but you can start rinsing properly after 3 days I think or whenever you think the clot is definately stuck there, but I was terrified of dry socket!

Hope this helps, any more Q's you can ask away!

I am that scared to eat anything :( I just have the feeling that it is like a filling but it obviously isn't a filling because I had the tooth out

It is hard to actually see it in the mirror because it is right at the back of my mouth and awkward for me to get to see :( I am trying to eat the ice cream on the other side of my mouth, I just feel uncomfortable :(:(

When I had the extraction, I didn't really ask much mainly because I had the gauze in my mouth and I was so numb that it was quite difficult to talk!

When did you start to eat more and how did you do it, do you carry on trying to eat at the other side of your mouth?

Maybe it just feels like it's still there because it's been there for so long, mine didn't feel right for a few days after aswell:pac:

I started eating properly again around day 3,but chewing on the other side of my mouth and not eating anything too crunchy or that.

I will see how I feel tomorrow as that will be the 3rd day. I had a yoghurt earlier which I must say I found easier than ice cream. I am just a bit fed up of feeling like I do (though I do feel I have lost weight so not all bad :D)

I guess it just makes it harder to see exactly what it is because it is right at the back and hard to see in the mirror!

I was living off yoghurts for the first two days alright:pac:

Yeah I was always checking mine out in the mirror, used to shine a light on it to see what was going on!

That might be an idea, I have a flashlight on my phone, might use that today!

I started off feeling somewhat better but not so sure know, think I can feel the clot again :(

Well at the moment, I have this horrible taste in my mouth, it is really bad, been trying to rinse with warm salty water but its really horrible :(

I had that aswell, thought it was an infection but I thought I'd wait for a few days and see,it disappeared after a few days, but got worse before it got better,I think it was dead tissue or something, but to play it safe, wait a day or two and see,if it doesn't get any better you should ring or see your dentist.:p
As long as you can still feel the clot I doubt it's dry socket,I hope it's not anyway,I heard so much horror stories I was terrified of getting it!:pac:

You're still not able to eat with it?

No problem, mine's way better now, just some bone fragments coming out now,not sore or anything at all though, good luck!:)

Not really, I managed to eat a little bit just now but that was the first time I ate in 5 days, really doesn't help that I am petrified that I will upset the clot! I was literally starving & seemed to have lost a bit of weight

I am noticing bone fragments coming out as well.. I will see how I am tomorrow. I did buy Corsydol (sp) mouthwash and that has seemed to help!

The clot should definately be fine now, there's really little or no chance of it getting dislodged at this stage I'd say!

Not suprised you'd lose weight if you were living off yoghurts and ice cream for 5 days.:pac:

Yeah corsydol is meant to be good for helping it not getting infected and stuff, will probably help with the weird taste aswell, but mine went away on it's own with just salt water, such a horrible taste/smell aswell though!

Hopefully it's nothin bad anyway,it takes ages to recover though,my swelling didn't go down untill after a week after but that's probably because it was such a big tooth to take out!

Things seem to have got worse for me :(

My tongue has now gone all white, I have tried to use salt water, mouthwashes, brushing and nothing works.

Trying to get an appointment with the dentist asap :(

Angel01 - my advice is to relax. See your dentist as soon as possible, but if you have a dry socket there is nothing you or the dentist can do about it except wait. The white tongue is probably from all the rinsing with salt and mouthwash. BTW the clot is stabilized after 24 hours so eat away and dont be so cautious. If you dont eat properly how do you expect to heal.

I couldn't eat properly because it was painful. I have seen my dentist, I am very dehydrated so I have to increase the fluids I drink, It is not that simple as just eat away, I am still in pain when I try to eat and I am doing the best I can. He told me to carry on brushing the tongue & using mouthwash.

He told me the area is still very inflamed and sore so I will try and eat small amounts on the other side.

still if nothing else, it is doing the diet well :D

Sorry,I accidently unsubscribed to this and forgot all about it!:pac:

    Did the dentist say much?
Like an above poster and myself said before, the clot should be definately stuck in there by now,and starting to heal up.

Yeah mine stayed swollen for a good while aswell, goes away quickly though when it decides to!
Ha,the diet should be going well indeed.:pac:

Mine is healing up quite well now, suprised at fast it starts to heal actually but still,it was all worth it,the pain I was in before was 10 times worse than any pain I've been in after the extraction.
    Tooth abcess = not good.:(

Anyway,I seem to have rambled a bit here, hope you're getting on well anyway, and you should just try and relax,I know it's hard to do,I was really worried about mine for the week after thinking everything was wrong with it!
How long has it been since you got it taken out again?

ah ya poor thing but what you feeling is 100% normal. you'll be ok, it is such a strange feeling especially if you had stitches. anytime i had tooth pulled i had stiches and i spend days licking them (horrific i know but unstoppable ended up with very tired tongue) . :D at least guilty tooth gone nothing worse than toothache and i have given birth to 3 children. ;)

    cheers.

It is now 8 days, I think the worst thing is the dehydration feeling, I have drunk 2 litres of water today and still drinking

He said it was still looking quite bad  but its looking as it should for 8 days after extraction, I am still in pain but can manage little meals which I guess is better than nothing :) I am still on the nurofen plus which is a god send :D

Are you dehydrated because of the tooth extraction?

Yeah mine was still a bit sore around then aswell I think, but mine's two weeks healing now and it's gotten a lot better in such a short time!Yours will hopefully heal the same soon aswell.

At least you didn't get dry socket, that was my biggest fear afterwards.:pac:

I was majorly worried about getting dry socket!!

Yeah, I wasn't drinking much in the early days as I found it really difficult to swallow.. but I am finding it easier now :)

I feel relieved now, just have to keep drinking lol
