What do you think are the characteristics of an Irish Jock?

The term jock is a classic North American stereotype of a male athlete. The etymology of the term jock is believed to be derived from the word jockstrap,[1] which is an athletic support garment worn by men who engage in physical sports. The word jockstrap results from the original meaning of jock, which was a slang term for the penis around the 1700s. The jock stereotype is attributed mostly to high school and college athletics participants who form a significant youth subculture. In sociology, the jock is thought to be included within the socialite subculture, which also contains the preppies and Ivy-Leaguers.[2] As a blanket term, the jock is considered synonymous with an athlete.[3]

Other words that may mean the same as "jock" include meathead, musclebrain, and the similar term musclehead. These terms are based in the beliefs that a jock is muscular, yet slower in the brain, and cannot carry a conversation on any topic other than one relating to weight-lifting or exercise.
However, as with any stereotype or subculture, the image attributed to male athletes by labeling them a jock is unfairly restrictive. While stereotypes often stem from a common trend in society, the over-arching notions behind a stereotype do not apply in all situations.

What an idea that would be, all female users have details of themselves in braille so you can get a feel for their personality.

*Note to self, attack the post, not the poster.*

This post looks as though the writer was a ****tard.

Most protestant... way to generalise. So, by your reckoning, and my knowledge of schoolyard cliques, most catholics are emos, and most hindu's are geeks?

    - always carrying a hurl or football or rugby ball
    - really thick

when i was in secondary school, all i heard in the mornings on the school bus was
" some training last night wasnt it" ,
"did you see the match last night lad",
    "jeez lads i love hurlin",
or god forbid one of them missed training - "where were ya last night for training? it was some good boy, we played loads a hurlin"

Back in my school days nearly all the jocks came from rich family backgrounds, were total snobs, and generally assholes.
The Rugby Jock and rugby jock girls were usually the same poeple that would be prefect's and one would always be chosen for school captain.

The Rugby player variety started to develop the square head look early on in their teens that could be recognized
even if they were in school uniforms.

Attire out of school uniform was usually a Rugby shirt with collar turned up. Levi 501 button fly in powder blue, and deck shoes with the bottom sole being of the white rubber varietly with the leather laces curled. Sun Glasses worn on the head regardless of weather.

As a teenager these same people seemed to be the only
people that went on the Ski Trips that were once a year
were must of us lesser Peons could not afford.

Stark contrast to any GAA players that I knew growing up, they were completely different.
typically more down to earth, and from the less Urban areas of the area. They wore their
GAA tops too, but I would never associate any of them with being jocks.
