2001 Corolla gearbox problem

Hey guys, I drive a 01 corolla and yesterday I decided to have a look underneath. Looks like my gearbox is covered in oil!!! There was a lot of old dirty black oil with a bit of fresh oil dripping off it. Not even sure if its gear box oil or engine oil. Although the car seems to be driving perfect, i'm still a bit worried. Anyone ever had a problem like this? Is my gearbox on the way out or can it be fixed? Any help appreciated.

Make sure and check the engine oil level

Did you check the engine oil level in your car to see if some is missing? It's unlikely the gearbox is leaking oil unless you smashed the underside into something recently and even that is unlikely. Could be your sump leaking the engine oil, again this would be caused by hitting something on the underside.

Topped up the engine oil today just in case, it wasn't very low anyway. The sump seems dry on the bottom, i'll have to check again tomorrow. Could be a leaking pipe? This actually could have been happening for a while because i remember a small oil stain on the drive way a few months back when the car was off the road for a few days. Never thought much of it which was stupid out of me!
