Pioneer DVD HD recorder

I bought this from auction site, brand new in box and sealed and all works fine except it wont read dvd's it just says cant use and spits em back out, dont know if it needs a region code or something so any help would be appreciated

Whats the model number?
There should be an indication of the region code on the back of the machine.
Many recorders can be hacked to be region free using a One for All remote control - google and you will find instructions if this is the problem.
Are you trying to play copied DVDs or proper ones ?
