Can't go wrong with Pokemon to be honest.

    Ya pokemon diamond/pearl or gold/silver
Scribblenauts is a pretty good game where what you draw comes to life
    New super mario bros
    Mario kart ds

The above games are great for kids

If he's not into "Pokémon" I'd go for a "Super Mario" game to start him off, but not "Super Mario Kart". That was a bad game. The brain training can get boring and the eye training one. I have the first Professor Layton game and I have being meaning to get the second one "Professor Layton and Pandora's Box". I'd recommend those titles the most.

i would go for new super mario bros, guitar hero if they like music, lego harry potter, super mario 64. i would go to smyths as they have a bargin bin. you can pick up perfect games for 25€. prof. layton would be good but some puzzles can be quite difficult and they might lose interest in the game :) pokemon is a must have you any ds owner ;)

oh and scribblenauts would be very good. very creative game would keep him entertained for hours...possibly days on end ;)

New Super Mario Bros is a brilliant game. I'd say he'd love it. It's not too hard to complete but if he wants to go back and get all the stars he can. (which is hard and will take a while)

Pokémon- If he likes monsters and adventure games and stuff. I can see some kids getting bored and it's not for everyone but you never know. He might enjoy catching 'em all. :pac: This will keep him amused for MONTHS! Get him to start with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum instead of the harder games, Heartgold/Soulsilver.

Mario Kart if he likes racing games. Great game. Alot of replay value. Great for kids and adults alike. ;)

Super Mario 64. If he likes mario and 3D adventure games.

Another vote for Pokemon. He may not like it, but if he does then he's probably looking at upwards of the 100s of hours in game time. :)
