In an effort to get out of the recession the government are going to tax local cardrooms and casinos 80% so they closed down as they couldnt make a profit. it is now illeagle to play online poker if you live in ireland the same way it is in america... 10000 fine and up to 5 years in prison is the guideline but really you could just expect to be fined 1k. its all over for poker in this country. dead as a doormail. damn politicians.

There was a disagreement in January between the mods/users of the poker forum and the admins of boards.ie.

It kinda got resolved but it had been the 3rd or 4th occasion something similar had happened. And was likely to continue happening.

So in the end the then mods of the poker forum set up this site
www.irishpokerboards.com which is now a thriving poker community. Most of us still use the other fora of boards.ie so its all amicable (I hope).
