    Hi,

    Currently have a sony vaio (pentium dual t2310 @ 1.46GHz, 2gb ram)
About 2 years old now and haven't had any major problems.

Looking to get a new model so might buy this:
    Sony Vaio EB1 from Play.com

Any suggestions on a better spec machine for a similar price?

    Thanks

The E series actually seems to be one of the only models that is competitively priced around the UK/Ireland area at the moment. The only other laptop I can think of with better specs for a "similar" (€100 more) price is the Acer Aspire 5740G. It has the same processor as the Vaio, but instead of integrated graphics it has a pretty decent dedicated card (Radeon HD5650), so if you were planning on doing any gaming it'd be the the Acer all the way. Of course, dedicated GPU usually means less battery life, it's the eternal trade-off. So it kind of depends on what you want out of the machine. There are also higher spec'd models of that vaio (including one with the 5650) around the place if you want/need more power.
