Friend has an old compaq laptop which would boot with a compaq logo. Now it boots with a hp invent logo but he did not update the bios. On checking the bios is years old. Why has the logo changed? It is working OK, this is a curiosity

Some computers ship with a "system update" software which keeps the systems drivers up to date, never heard of one updating the bios aswell though, seems like a silly thing to make "automatic" due to people screwing them up, bios shouldn't be flashed in a windows environment anyways :P

No, there isnt such a option for now as an auto update of the bios. There are auto update programs for some boards (Gigabytes, Asustek), but you have to run them manually from Windows; else the common bios update method is flashing via floppy or CD. There are option for some MB's to change the bios boot logo, but isn't the case for an old Compaq.
