I have an 01 clio 1.2 it has givin me nothing but trouble but unfortunately I cant afford to replace it.

the latest problem happend today while taking off and moving into 2nd gear the car was jumpy but didnt think it was too bad but as i went on and back into 2nd taking a bend it got jumpy kinda like chugging, but this time it kept doing the same in every gear and a light came on flashing on the dash it is a weird shape dont know what it means. luckily i was only a couple hundred yards from home and made it but it feel like it is about to go completely.

so has anyone any idea what is wrong?

thanks in advance for any advice

Ignition coil light as I've also had the CLIO FROM HELL also.

I bet you lost power also.

Try reset the computer and see how you go.

As said ignition coils.

Get the key and press the button to lock/open the car 10 times in succession. If there is no button turn the ignition on and off ten times

Then start the car and see how it goes.

It will clear the fault and it may run better. Mine used to give this fault every now and again. The ignition coils are simple to do but like everything else they cost money as all 4 have to be done for a proper fix

I think they are about €100 each or there abouts. Thats what my mate was charged anyway for his Laguna. but I may be mistaken/or he may of been overcharged.

No point in getting second hand ones either as it is a VERY common failure.

Try reset the computer and see how you get on. Sorry I can't be of more help
light that came on flashing is the one directlel below the right indicator in this picture.
Thats the engine light (as you describe being directly under right indicator)

Sorry I misread you post. I thought it was the light that was illuminated......

Gladiator is quiet correct, my apologies

From your desciption of the problem my first thoughts are the coil pack, the spark plug leads or the spark plugs themselves but I don't know if any of these would cause the engine light to flash.

When were the spark plugs last changed and who changed them?
If you changed them yourself or if a friend changed them, did you or they set them correctly?

The cheapest option is to put in new plugs.
Second is the plug leads
and third the coil pack.

But wait for another poster to confirm any or all of the above as I'm not a mechanic.
Just a former clio owner.

I'd still try reset the computer and see if that clears the fault other than that I'd say its time to get an expert

It may not be a big problem, I've seen this light on in other cars due to emissions problems.

however you need a fault code reader for a better picture of whats going on

Best to get a diagnostic check done on your car, should tell you
exactly what sensor is at fault.

I assume that was supplied and fitted?

It does seem very expensive depending on which coils were used. They can be bought from €20 + vat and take kess than 5 mins each to fit.
