Does anyone know what the best bait for sea trout is when they have just entered a river? I'm thinking maybe strips of sand eel or mackerel, anyone ever used these?

    Thanks

No they're not good baits when sea trout are in a river, fly or spinner, maybe worms

    Night fishing is the best.

I'd usually spin after a spate, fly fish at night and try worms further up the river. However, I'll be heading to a place that's affected by the tide this evening, thought it might be worth a shot (basically I'm too lazy to dig worms, the ground is like a bloody rock at the moment!)

sure try what you want. if i were you i'd spin with the likes of a wedge or toby style lure they work well in tidal stretches
