Setting up a dish indoors

Okay this might be daft question but Ill proceed nonetheless!

I live on a top floor apartment with what seems to be perfect access to the direction a dish needs to be pointing. Im not supposed to have a dish on the side of the apartment, but would it be possible to set the dish up indoors pointing thru a window? Would that allow any kind of signal thru or would it make it unusable?

There are "dishes" specifically designed for the inside of windows - they have been discussed here before if you do a bit of digging

Cool ill have a look, cheers. A normal dish wouldnt do the trick then?

In my experience a normal dish would work through single pane older glass - like a glazed porch . But with newer single glass / double glazing it won't due to the UV filtering/tinting present in it blocking the signal.

If you've got balcony facing the right direction there are hidden/discrete dishes too - like these - http://www.digicams-uk.com/prod30.htm , Sqish Dish Quad - http://www.sqish.co.uk/index.php

I know nothing about them and have never used them so ask the pro's first. They might be a better option for you but they are very, very, very expensive .

Pelisor2000, are you living in a rented apartment or house by any chance where a Landlord or residence association told you that you couldn't put up a dish on the wall and if you will excuse me please then decided to give him or her the single or two fingers and place it inside by any chance? :D Is it working well? No picture breakup at all I expect as it is indoors? :) Is it for Freesat or Sky?

Nice job with the dish inside...but this isnt always going to be possible...your just lucky you got the angle to do it within..this wont work in all situations..

You should liase with the management company withing your appartment block, what service is there already installed??? If a large number of people withing the block want sky there is very little that the management company can do to stop you

Yeah, I guessed as much that the double glazing would block the signal when the window would be closed. It will cost a lot of money to heat the place while watching the satellite in the freezing winter weather. I wouldn't fancy having to leave that open for too long!
