I thought they completely killed that franchise with the last one.
Is Kevin Spacey still going to be playing Lex Luther?

    I bloody hope not...

I just watched Superman 1 the other night. I still love every scene. Hopefully they sort this one out, but I didn't loathe the last one, like many of you on here.

BTW how can they have a sequel to The Hangover (see link). It doesn't make sense.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I liked Superman Returns. It had been so long since Christopher Reeve's films had been out, it was good to see a new film and see some new special effects. It would have been nice though had it got some more action.

Not sure if Spacey will be back as Lex Luthor, although I thought he did a good job, as did most of the cast. Not sure about Bosworth as Lois Lane though. I thought Brandon Routh was a great as Clark Kent and Superman but it's hard to know if they'll pick him.

I guess if they're doing a "reboot" then they might want to go with fresh actors for all roles. Although I think if they do, they need to go with an unknown as Superman again. It seems to work the best when they do that. Either that or Tom Welling :D

    Oh really? :)

I hope if they make this that they put Superman vs an alien enemy who is more powerful than him (eg Darkseid or maybe Zod again). Superman (for me) is only interesting when he is the underdog or facing a legitimate challenge.

Also while we're at it, get rid of that putz who played him in the last movie (and Kate Bosworth who was the worst thing about the whole venture).

Yea, they're rebooting Superman and the consesus is that they may be keeping Brandon Routh considering he didn't do a bad job himself in that boring movie.

Still, no matter how they do this it will never be the old Reeve's Superman movies...................ahhhh, memories.

It's good at Nolan is involved in this - makes me hopefull it will be alot better than the borefest that was Superman Returns - and frankly Spacey was the only bloody good thing about that film, so him reprising his role as Luther would by no means be a bad thing. Although I still say get Gene Hackman back - any excuse to see that legend back on the big screen. As for who will play Superman - how about Nic Cage? Afterall he already got paid $20M to play Superman - the least he could do his do the actual job. Would be very entertaining.:D

Cause its prob the funniest film out in the last few years. Im open to correction though. A sequel might stink i agree with ya but its worth a go.

I also really liked Superman Returns but if there's a new film please let them re-cast Lois Lane - Kate Bosworth was woeful...

Routh certainly didn't do a bad job in Returns.
The problem with Superman is that Reeves is synonymous with the Superman character and nobody is ever going to really be able to step out from his shadow.
That's why Batman works, nobody really took on the role, the actor always changed every film, or every second film.

Singer paid homage to Donners Superman work with the last one so I wonder how a Nolan reboot will work. We dont need another origin story and it will be ruined if he tries to make it too real worldish like his batman films.

As for who will play Superman - how about Nic Cage?

I know you are joking but if this were to be true, there would be a face palms worldwide. :)

There's something I dislike about Nicholas Cage. He has this smart ass looking face on him all the time. He doesn't come across as very likeable at all, in anything.

Routh I thought was very good. He played Clark Kent goofy but not too goofy and didn't come across like he was just copying Christopher Reeve. As Superman, he came across as confident but quiet and dignified. Which was a nice mix. Bring him back WB please.

They said the same thing when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman and he put in a decent and interesting performance.

Althought this photo wouldn't exactly fill you with hope!

The only way Cage would ever get near this role would be if Tim Burton had been given the gig. From the artwork released from that proposed film thank the lord this never happened. Though Routh was brilliant, pity they didnt cut 50 % of the Loise Lane stuff and leave the scenes of him returning to Krypton in his spaceship in.

They should have him fight Doomsday, while setting up Darkseid for a sequel. Win.

I actually had no issues with Routh's acting in Superman Returns but the plotline was absolute shíte..... :D

The main issue with SR (other than the lack of punching, Bosworth and the whole stalker scenario) was it just reintroduced us to the same characters everyone and their dog knows. People say it is a continuation of Donner's film then complain Lex isn't the real one from the comics. The Hackman style Lex was in the previous 2 so Spacey had to continue on from there or else it would be a reboot. There is no "dark" superman like Batman so I don't see how Nolan can help. The only solution (every fan will understand) is to bring Doomsday, Darkseid, Brainiac etc into the mix i.e. action.
If they were to continue on from SR the best way I thought
would be Brainiac (Smallville version) or an ally of Zod to find the crystals Superman sent to space in the Kryptonite Island and return Zods powers and fisty cuffs will then arise

I really can't put strongly enough how much I don't want Nicholas Cage to be the new Superman. Assuming they don't keep Brandon Routh or go with Tom Welling or an unknown.

Cage was signed up for Burtons take on it back in 1998 so I dont know where these rumours are coming from. They really should stick to Routh but if its a reboot the studios will probably think american audiences will be too confused! Wiki has some interesting casting choices for the previous abandoned reboots.
