Hi guys I’m looking to make quite a complicated and large stencil I was wondering if anyone has any experience making these.

I have experience using smaller stencils to make t-shirts but I am looking to make a stencil of a drawing that I have done of a person at 1:1 scale which I intend to then paint over using spray paint. The intention is to have the final piece on a brick wall.

This is the drawing I would like to make the stencil of although it may change slightly.Punk Angel W no short.jpg

By the way don't worry I am not going to be doing anything ilegal.

You could check this site out, I found it brilliant for some very large scale work. The galleries are well worth a visit and you have the option to work online or download a free prog to your computer, but this is only necessary if you are really going large!

    Hope this is of help.

Do you mean have I seen Banksy's work?

Because if you do then yes I have. I lived very close to Shoreditch in the east end of London for a few years and he had a lot of stuff all around that area. He did one on a working men’s club really near to where I lived where he took a double yellow line from the street and made it look like the council worker doing the lines had veered off and painted a big flower on the side of wall. I was really disappointed when the council came along and washed of the paint on the footpath leading from the road to the wall. They would have washed off the wall too but the club said they wanted to keep it.

Thanks for the link to that program judas1369 its pretty handy I think Ill just use this and print them out on lots of A4 stick them to a large bit of card or cardboard and cut out a stencil from that.

Is the council allowed to do that to "art"?

Yeah, I reckon that would be the way to go, ite a pretty useful programme.
By the way if you like Banksy, you should check out the work of this French artist- Blek le Rat, who originated the stencil technique and influenced Banksy in his work.

Well to be honest I don't really want to be taking this too far off topic... but I came across his work some years ago. I work in a similar vein from time to time, usually on large canvas using various techniques such as stencil making and airbrush graphics.
I would love to discuss this further with regards to various artists around the world and techniques and I feel this type of thread is indicative of the need to have a separate sub forum as posited by Doc in the original post- check out the link at the end and if you agree , show your support!
anyway here is something from Brazil-

Take the time to go over the site, yeah I know its in Portuguese but the visual content is worth it. There are a lot of links to some pretty incredible stuff as well!

Am I from Brazil? no, I come from exotic Dublin!
I met some people from Brazil some time ago that introduced me to this style. It is all the more amazing when you consider that a lot of the work is executed using left over house paint such as emulsion, as cost and availability of conventional media is prohibitive.
