I was speaking to someone today about hurling training, running up Vinegar Hill 4 times at 7 in the morning, 3 times a week .

So fitness, player motivation probably isn't an issue

Does it come down to management, tactics lack of good players

I Know living in in Wexford there seems to be be a bit of thats the way it is (kilkenny always beating us) but what do Kilkenny,Cork, Tipperary do that's so different that gives them the edge

Maybe you need to tog off and bring a bit of passion and motivation to the squad along with your hurling skills.

Seems the thread title has changed (originally "Wexford Hurlers are crap") along with the contents of the original post.

    Its in the genes
Kilkenny chaps are born hurlers .

Watch an U16 hurling match that say the Good Counsel in New Ross Co Wexford are playing in .............There are boys on the one team from at least 4 counties , ie Wexford , Kilkenny , Carlow , Waterford

The best hurlers by far are the boys born and reared in Co. Kilkenny , -

This trend can be seen all the way through from Juvenile to Senior

They're just not up to the standard of teams like Kilkenny, Cork and Waterford. I mean come on now, them two Jacobs should be at home listening to their Da talk about past glories 40 years ago. Rory gets the ball, and runs straight for the corner, sure you cant score from there. And Mick is on the team because of his Da, he's brutal, hasnt the physic for it, no matter how hard he trains.

Doubt that anyone seriously believes that the Cats are better than us due to their different DNA, because our Camogie players have had plenty of success nationally & against KK in recent years!!!

KK have better development youth systems in place for the last decade something that WX are only starting to catch up on, plus they don't seriously play football which helps:rolleyes:

That's the main reason for their success, plus hard work & organisation , which the rival counties have failed to match so far:confused:.

Thats it basically plus the standard in some of the secondary schools is really high and they really sell it to the students and that level. You have pick up hurling at an early age.

Well the Wexford camogie team are back in the All Ireland Final after beating the Cats in the semi, including scoring 2 goals in a minute, usually that happens against us in the Hurling:eek:

Congratulations to the team on their 3-12 to 1-11 win!

Wexford, as far as I know, are the ONLY county to pospone their CLUB championships during All Ireland Championship weeks - so where the likes of Brian Cody can go the length and breath of his county and watch all the possible players playing in proper matches and then pick his team, the Wexford manager (well even the manager is only a front and the team is been run by the Board) can only go on TRAINING!!

No matter how much training you do, if your not MATCH FIT it's not worth a damn!!

Oh and the fact that Wexford don't play as a TEAM doesnt help! The whole thing of your from X place in the county and Im from Y is evident!! Like if the two Jacobs are both started they will only really help each other out!

Oh and Wexford panels are picked on the basis of who you ARE rather than what they can do on a hurling field for the most part! Again the Jacobs are prime examples!!
