Custom Titleist clubs

I'm after getting a custom fitting session down in Carton house (which was great btw).

What I want to know is what's the story with purchasing them. I know I have to go through a pro, but who exactly am I buying them from? I'm basically buying them through the pro rather than from them, so who decides the final price (just in case I need to shop around)

I'm ordering a set of AP2's, driver, 3 wood, rescue and 2 vokey wedges.

This is my first real set of clubs, so if anyones done this before, the advice will be much appreciated. :D

Did you ask the pro for the specs. If you didnt get them ask for them.then ring any golf shop and tell them what you want. They should quote a price over the phone.
Any golf shop will be able to order custom fit clubs. I would imagine buying from Carton house would be very dear.

Acushnet is the company who own Titleist. They will be coming from England.

Yeah, that's the one. I've got the specs here in front of me, but I'm wondering if I'm just buying from titleist or if the pro is going try and stick me for a couple of zeros. If that's the case, I'd shop around for a deal, but I'm not sure what the story is.

Shop around. I saved around 150euro on my irons at the start of the year from my original quote. Try online for a guide to price.

Thanks Jimmy, but I'm not looking about the price of the clubs. I know the price bracket from checking all over the place.

What i'm asking is if the pro I get them through is entitled to stick on his own markup on it after the initial cost from the manufacturer.

I'm 99.9% sure Carton don't sell clubs, its just a fitting service. At least it was.....don't think its changed recently.

If you have the specs I think you'll just have to order them from a pro and he may well add his mark up. Upside is that you can shop around if you have the specs.

I know what frequently happens (although may not have in your case) is that you go into a pro shop, say you want to buy a set of Titleists and the pro books you in for the fit in Carton with Titleist. Then after the fit, if you want the clubs, they can order them for you in your specs, the clubs are delivered to the original pro and thats who you pay.

That is the case Russman. He had to book the fitting for me. If he gets to add his markup, I'll have a shop around then. I had him give me the specs.

    Cheers

    No worries,
I've been thinking of biting the bullet and going down for a fit myself, was it good ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Smyth

ah yeah, it was brilliant. Every stat you could possibly want to get the best fit. The pro there was very helpful. He took me through every shaft and found the one that was just right. They're very thorough. He'll advise as to what you need, but also why you'll need it.

I've always wondered why my balls would stray about the place, so when he fitted me with s400 shafts and adjusted the lie angle, I was amazed at the accuracy and flight of the ball. I've never hit shots like that before. I cannot wait to get these clubs in my hands.

I'm lucky I did after playing only 6 months or so, because using stock clubs, he was explaining how badly it can affect your game, and the proof was in the pudding. Only costs 50 quid to get it done, but christ it was worth it.

No, you've got it wrong. The fitting wasn't the issue. That's well worth the money.

I just wasn't sure on the options to purchase the clubs.

I ended up going onto http://www.golfbuyitonline.co.uk to get the clubs as per the fitting session. €300 cheaper than the price quoted by the pro I booked the session through.

    Hope you understand now.

I got fitted in Carton last year with Henry and found him to be excellent. Ended up getting the spec and purchased the clubs through Halpenny Golf who contacted Titleist direct. It cost me €300 less that the quote I got from Carton

GolfStoreEurope.com up the north do the whole custom fit online. Options are all below & you select before you buy. Takes 10-14 days for your clubs to arrive back from titleist but you'll save some money.

They send them to the pro you book it through. I just asked him to forward me a copy.

New Driver, 3 wood, Hybrid, AP2's and 2 vokey wedges will be at my doorstep on Tuesday morning. So excited.

Just over a week from order to delivery. Awesome.

Ye but you can book straight through Carton(academy) if you like because i phoned them to enquire so i am presuming they will have your specs once the fitting is done? Best of luck with your clubs,i am not sure about buying custom fitted clubs online in case something goes wrong it would be handier to go back to the pro.

The academy is where you get your fitting done. When I was done, I presumed that they would send the order off through the club, but they don't. Instead they send the spec to the pro that you booked the session through so that they can order the clubs in for you.

Stock clubs are different. But for the custom Titleist, this is the way he said it had to be done.

Now, I got the pro to send me a copy so I could shop around. My pro priced himself out of it completely so that's why I went online. There's plenty of other places that can do it around the country if you're afraid of buying it in from the UK.

Thats my point mate because you don't half to book through your pro,you can phone and book it yourself as on the website where i got the number from, so you would probably half to buy from them.I was wondering if pinkdoubleeagle got his specs direct from the academy as he did not mention going through a pro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Smyth

that's interesting. When I was enquiring, I initially went to McGuirks. They forwarded me onto Carton. Then Carton told me to book through my pro.

Whatever the situation, the fitting session is a separate thing all together. I'd encourage you to shop around.

    Best of luck.

Had my fitting this week and I was very happy with the session.

Great set up, very professional but also friendly.

Approximately 7-10 day leadtime now for the clubs - so can't wait!

Would definitely recommend though to anybody else that's considering getting fitted.

(I can go into better detail if anybody is weighing it up as an option).
