Fridge Gone - Recommendations on a new one

    Hi,

Our 5 year old hotpoint (RLA80), 6ft larder fridge is "beyond economic repair". Needs to be re-gassed but repair guy says will only go again and isn't worth doing. Better to replace it.

He suggested a Beko or Powerpoint as they are pretty much the same quality and it's cheaper to replace one of those every 5/6/7 yrs than have the more expensive ones.

Don't need anything fancy like water dispensers or ice makers, just a plain large larder fridge.

Any recommendations (or any to avoid)?

No particular preference, probably from Swans Carlow, Telfords Portlaoise or any other supplier around those areas.

I have an Electrolux for the past 10yrs, about 6 1/2" larder style and matching Freezer no problems. I'd get a second opinion on the repair, all it is is to find and seal the leak and repair unless the compressor is shagged

you make it sound so easy! replacing the compresser is much easier then sealing a leak

Depends where the leak is GMan, if on the evap I'd agree with you but it may be very accesable, a second opinion may save the OP a few quid.

    Not a hotpoint.

Rubbish, rubbish after sales service. Brutal service centre staff. My freezer was broken after three years.

mines 14 yrs old, cover fell off ice box, the door now is going lopsided, then there are seven in this family using it, it will have to go this year, on the lookout for new one, or good used one

    Bosch, Siemens or Electrolux
Miele if you've got the cash!
