Cycle Instructor Training Course

A quick heads up for anyone interested in setting up a business as a cycle instructor or maybe earn a handy 2nd income giving cycling lessoons.

I'm in discussions with a UK training firm (who I have absolutely no connection with) to hold a 4 day cycle instructor training course in Limerick some time in July or August. (I won't post details of the firm here, in case I'm accused of shilling, but PM if you want to find out more.)

Plan is to have 12 places available. Cost isn't finalised yet, but based on all places being filled, it will be around €750.00 for 4 day course (including course material, but not accommodation or post course assessment).

Course graduates will achieve provisional accreditation which allows you to start delivering cycle training to UK National Standard. Full accreditation is only given after successfully passing two post-course assessments, within 6 months of taking the 4 day course, while being mentored by an advanced instructor (this is also something I'm hoping to arrange at a later date if all goes well with the first course).

Nothing confirmed as yet. At the moment I'm just putting out feelers to see what level of interest there would be before I decide whether to make arrangements to book the UK crowd. If you're definitely interest or want to find out more, just PM me.

    Cheers.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them as best as I can.

This is a genuine attempt to bring over an accredited cycle instructor training firm from the UK to run a course not available here in Ireland. Course is as follows:

I am not associated with above company in any way.

Smells genuine and not spammy to me. You'd need to clarify the 'extra' costs up front (i.e. the post-training assessment(s)), so people aren't tied into paying for these hidden extras.

i would be interested:D but HOW is it viewed by C.I:(

SerialComplaint - I agree that the post-course assessment fees (and the whole logistical issues around how these would be conducted) need to be agreed first with the instructor training firm before going ahead with the course. I'll post more details here once I've discussed further with them.

concretehead73 - To be honest, I'm not really sure how this is viewed by Cycling Ireland. All I know is that when Dublin City introduced its new BikeStart programme, they hired in a firm from the UK (I think it was Bikeright) to deliver the instructor training courses. I may be wrong, but I don't believe there is currently a National Cycle Training Standard here in Ireland, but in my view the quicker something is introduced, the better. The UK already has something in place which appears to be working well (Bikeability). Why reinvent the wheel when surely all someone in CI or the Dept of Transport needs to do is copy the best bits of similar Standards across Europe and implement a formal policy so qualified & accredited instructors can start delivering high quality training to schools etc. across the country?

Hi There cycletraining, I hope you are still reading this thread, I'm interested in taking an instructor course, but €850 plus extras is a bit pricey, are there any concessions or could you get some deals from the guys delivering the course, I believe they are about £500 in u.k and I'd still hve to travel and pay accom. costs to do a course in Limerick

cyclebird - apologies for delay in replying. While there's been some interest in the training course, unfortunately there haven't been enough takers to warrant the expense of bringing over a crowd from UK. I'm continuing to explore other avenues and will keep in touch with all of those who have emailed or PM'd me. Cheers.
