Sounds like a HG leak tbh. Is the car down on power, do the air vents blow hot, mayonnaise under the oil filler cap etc?

yes they say its ok on that but did say that rovers a
hard car to do ,they said that when its hot it could open a small hole that wont show up in compression test.

    ps me think thats crap.

That sounds like complete rubbish. The head gasket is either fixed properely or it's not.

I'm not a mechanic but there are only a limited amount of places water can leak from. You say the hg is good, the heater matrix is good, the water pump is done. What about the rad itself? Other than that just have a good luck for any signs of leaks in the engine bay or along any pipes.

Seems as the only symptom is water loss and if we presume the HG was fixed correctly 18 months ago (ie head was fine and not fit for the bin) and the loss is constant and not too much I would strongly advise the garage check the condition of the inlet manifiold gasket. Awkward ish job and maybe two hours labour but in many case of coolant loss from a k it's from the inlet manifold gasket. Generally they leak in rather than out so it goes unnoticed. They are about €15 from a Land Rover dealer. Other main culprit is the water pump, if you remove the cam covers coolant staining would be visible if it was coming from here.

Out of interest when the HG went 18 months ago what was the cause ? Did the car overheat and has the coolant loss been ever since or just a recent thing ?

water went out rapidly, (was told it is hgf all rover 25 had there head done)

worked fine for about 8-9 months. was told inlet manifold is the cause as you said its going in not out THANKS.

Just as James pointed out, it appears the inlet manifold would be the issue here. Very common on the K-series engine which ultimately leads to HGF and an unpleasent bill or sadly the scrappage of the car.

Let me know what you intend to do with the car as I'm thinking of getting a cheap Rover soon to keep me motoring for the summer and would be willing to repair myself.

    No worries.

I'm low on cash too hence my interest in the car. Can't find anyone to buy my classic Rover which I'm selling to pay the bills so my Corolla shall be in the firing line soon.

Just finished college so have lots of bills and no job. Admittidly not in as bad a situation as yourself. Good luck with the repairs and lotto :D
