    Hi Guys

Basically looking at doing Italy but not too sure where for holidays - at the moment, i am thinking Venice, Lake Garda/Como or else just thinking of doing Rome...

just wondering has anyone has been here before? Was chatting to someone one day who said it was a nice place. Also not to far from Venice aswell..

Been there twice before, going again this year in July with my 8 year old daughter, who absolutely cannot wait to return.

If you want beach, pizza and ice cream, this is the place for you.......not much in the way of fine dining, but there are a lot of decent restaurants.

You can get to Venice with a bus and boat ride, leaving you almost in Piazza San Marco, journey time is an hour or so, buy a ticket that covers bus, boat and vaporetto in Venice for about 22 euro before you leave Jesolo, this option is better and cheaper than a guided tour, and you might actually meet some Italians! Around the main tourist sights, Venice can be unbearable, but get a couple of streets off the beaten track, and it's a revelation.

There is a lot to do in Lake Garda, Sirmione is a lovely medieval town with a fabulous ruined villa at the end of the peninsula, Malcesine has a nice castle on the lake(seen some people getting married the day we were there) with a stunning cable car up the 1750 m Montebaldo. The view of the lake on one side and the dolomite mountains to walk through and admire.

Then there is Salo, Gardone, Desenzano and Riva del Garda. So a lot to do around the lake.

We spent a week in a nice apartment in a village called Moniga del Garda at the bottom of the lake. Hired a car to drive round.

The second week we split between Verona (fabulous city with stunning buildings) and Bologna. Cannot say enough about Bologna a stunning city with the best food in Italy. Verona is only a short trip on the Train or by car from Lake Garda could do a Day trip but it is worth spending more time than that. Ending in Bologna is a fine way to finish a holiday and Aer Lingus fly to/ from Dublin as well.
