I am currently looking into potential business ideas in the golf industry.

Anybody have any ideas of what they would like to see or what is successful elsewhere in the world but not yet in Ireland?

Can't think of the name of them.. Might actually have been here I seen them! But I've also seen them on top gear without space for a golf bag!

There electric, 2 wheeled, 1 person 'vehicles'. The stand freely and you lean forward and back for propulsion!

I'd quite like to see them on every golf course in Ireland, and for them to be socially acceptable so I don't feel like a clown on one ha!

i'm sick of having to take all the shots myself and would like a robot to accompany me on rounds
i've seen this used in china
basically he doubles up as a caddy
and if you've got a tough shot and cant be assed taking it you just delegate
    expensive though

Free golf, no rain, nobody else holding me up or wanting to get through, and a scratch handicap!

(I'm joking? Well, you started it!)

You supply good old fashioned 'golf caddies'. Not robots, not electronics anything.
    O.k here's what you do....
You approach all the golf clubs....you ask the junior section Convenor has he any lads or lassies that are good golfers and are willing to make a fee bob during the summer months....the Convenor will say what's in it for the club...they get a percentage (cut)....while your investment and idea flourishes during the summer months start working on those seniors that have nothin' to do all day except play golf and talk about the old days at the clubhouse bar.
    Suggest similar to them.
Now how many clubs are there on our island...how many would like to provide a 'real caddie service' for their visitors as part of their P.R....

And if it all works out I'll be your partner...

All golf balls used to float.

For many years now, we have been advocating a return to the "floater" as a way of reigning in the increased distance that is ruining the game.

By going back to the floating ball, you will likely reduce driving distance by about 15-20%. Perfect.

Now all you need to do is convince the equipment manufacturers.

Nah - it's already been done. You can get floating golf balls (I have some).

Only problem is my handicap has gone to hell since I started playing them - my max driving distance is probably about 120 yards.

Think I'll have to go back to regular balls and consign these 'almost golf' eggs to the back yard.

my friend plays with a ball that has a microchip in it, so you will never lose it as it beeps when you get near it when you are searching for it. Allthough when i asked him where he got it he said he found it. would be a good seller all the same.

Kace, As I stated above, this is not a new idea. ALL golf balls used to float. I am saying that if the floating golf ball was re-introduced as mandatory, then we could solve the distance problem by reducing the drive by about 15-20%.

The balls you mention above were developed for practise purposes. There are many clubs who use floating golf balls at their driving ranges where (usually as a gimmick) the bays all face over a lake... As expected, most of these examples are in the USA but there are some European examples as well...

Thanks for clarifying (as I replace my floating balls with Pro V1s)

As a matter of interest, in what decade / century did all golf balls float ?

When the R&A and USGA standardised legislation on the golf ball in 1932, they compromised and the floater no longer existed... The British had been pushing for the floater, the Americans were against it... Most leading lights in the game saw even at that time that increased distance was a problem and affecting the courses...

Major advancements of the golf ball:

    Feathery - to 1848
    Gutta Percha - 1848-1902
    Haskell - 1902-1932
    Modern Golf Ball - 1932 - 2000 (with a change in the 60's)
    Pro V1 - 2000 - Now

Is the golf ball really such a problem? From what i can see it's a level playing field and courses have been adapted to suit.

Equipment advances (especially ball) have a direct negative effect on many things but perhaps the main two are their contribution to longer courses (meaning slower play) and their provision of increasesd spin and distance (meaning strategy and the ground game is taken from the game i.e. fun).
