I've Norton SystemWorks and while it's ok I find that it can't get rid of / fix some issues. Wonder if this would be any better?

When it runs the scan and goes to repair it asks me for a repair key or my credit card details to buy one? Where do I register?

Hit the down arrow on the top right of the screen & choose the Reg option to enter the registration details provided in the original post.

Nope, no reg option there! No down arrow to click, just the screen asking for my credit card details! Where have I gone wrong? :o

If you are sure you downloaded it from THIS link it will work and is legit.

Just follow the instructions as given,

It should have asked you for Reg details directly after install???

If you downed it from any other source? you should uninstall & do as suggested.

    Just a note on this

It's very finnicky to register. Make sure you copy and paste exactly thr username and reg number and make sure there are no carriage returns after the reg in the appropriate box etc.

Also bear in mind, the first thing this app tries to do when you run setup, is connect to the internet. It then users localhost to reflect on itself but every now and then it tries to connect to the outside www. I cannot find any options for controlling this such as disabling auto updates etc - so it's a little sinister.

Why would setup want to connect to the net before it even executes?

it tries to connect to ask. blocked with firewall. I used reg code given but it says saved but on opening again it is back to a trial. I copied and pasted the code into the GUI.

    Uninstalled it

Yes you can't install without theAsk toolbar being installed. Just uninstalled it & all is fine from what I can see.

I pasted in the code from Basquiles link in Post 5 and it was unlicked.

When I installed the link in post 4 it just reverted to trial version.

I unclicked the 3 boxes when it asked to install ASK etc..

It did not install ASK and works perfectly.

    Thanks Gadgetman (OP) and Basquile.

    Totally incorrect.

You most certainly can & should install without the Ask Toolbar.

    Untic all options when installing.

correct but when I pasted in the code it accepted it and asked to restart. on restart it went back to trial, tried several times. same

Downloaded, entered user id & key & working fine.

When C&Ping the key, it adds some extra line breaks at the end.

As mentioned above I removed these, restarted and works fine in full mode.

Is this a similar program to crap cleaner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭banchang

you uninstalled the ask toolbar or the program?

The program which gives you the toolbar.

    Under Change/Remove you'll see 'Ask'

When the Ts & Cs come up there are 3 boxeds ticked - if you untick 2 of them you can proceed. If you untick all 3 (the last one being Ask toolbar) the 'Next' box is greyed out - you can't proceed with the installation.

So my experience was to proceed to install with Ask (as that's the only way you can get the Winutilities installation to proceed) & straightaway go to change/remove programme 'Ask' when you have registered.

That may have been your experience & I can only assume that you done something other than follow the simple instructions?

I have installed this on quite a few systems at this stage & never once had to install "ASK" or any of the other additional crap ;)

Some users might be getting confused with the sneaky terminology being used in the way the check box statements are being phrased?

One of them indicates that you can not proceed whithout accepting the option? "Read it again"

    -

Appreciate that you are 'The Gadgetman' n all, but you have heard at least two people on this thread refer to Ask linked to this installation.

My simple suggestion was that if that should happen to anyone who doesn't have the technological know-how or installation experience of 'The Gadgetman', just uninstall in Change/Remove programs.

Apologies if I am 'totally incorrect' or have not followed the 'simple instructions'. I will certainly 'read it again'.

I had the same issue as some here.

Installed it and unticked the top tickbox for the Ask Toolbar (which subsequently grayed out the other options) and installed.
C&P'd username and serial, without any extra spaces or anything, and it kept saying 31 days left on evaluation.

    Tried reinstalling and same story.

So, redownloaded it (this time from the .RO mirror, not that I think it made much of a diff) and when ASK installer prompt came up, I unticked each box from the bottom up (not sure if that made a diff) and then C&P'd the details in and everything worked out with so it's the full version now.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

    Thanks, OP.

Funny, I didn't get any tick boxes during install (I denied ASK from connecting to the net), but everything seemed to go OK - entered Registration info etc. No ASK toolbar visible in browsers etc. Did anyone else get this scenario?

I ran defrag, registry cleaner and a few other utilities.

Then I uninstalled using the supplied tool, and was told that not all components were removed (suggested manual removal).

At this point I re-installed, allowing ASK to connect to the net. Still no optional tick boxes during install. Did *not* have to enter registration info this time?

Anyway - final result - happy with it, just a bit puzzled over no tick boxes....

I had problem registering too so uninstalled it and downloaded from http://www.giveawayoftheday.com. When it was installed I was prompted to update to v9.7 so I updated and restarted computer. I now have v9.7 full version, works no problem.

I know that is a very round about way to do it but it works if other people are having same problem.

Thanks to gadgetman for bringing it to my attention, its a very good program.

Yes, but the major drawback with Giveaway of the day is that it must be installed on the day & if you ever need to re-install again it won't register.

Fine for the life or your current install but that's it unfortunately :(

You could image the install using something like Acronis but it's a lot of hassle.
