The legend of zelda has been the one game that since I first played it on the N64 that I have always looked out for always looking for my next zelda fix. Now the time is near at this year's E3 they will unveil the latest edition.
There are a bunch of rumours around as usual a including time travel being re-incorperated into the story line.
This one will also not have a master sword.
A new weapon to be included into the bow and arrow/boomerand/etc category.

This thread is really just to have update's on it's release video's(hopefully after E3)

The game it's self is supposedly very close to being finished just a few bits to be done on the story line hence why they started on the mechanics instead of the cut scene's.

Discuss all theories hope's etc :)

Twlight Princess was a Gamecube game...but was still ****ing epic!

A brand new made for wii title has very very high expectations....and unlike sonic games...those are always met =)
Looking forward to it a lot to say the least :)

First of all, if you know me you will know I'm an absolutly HUGE Zelda fan! Not that anyone does, just saying ;) :pac:

I heard a few days ago that the name was leaked and it is going to be called "Prophet of Light" or "Light Prophet". Google it. It was translated from Japanese to English but it mightn't be true anyway.

Also, the girl resembles the master sword so people think that she might be it. I think maybe she could be your companion and turns into the master sword when you want. (A bit like Zack and Wiki)
I am so hyped for E3 now, especially for this game!
@B man: How could you not know this!!? It's been going around for the last year! xD there's not much info on it so far which is wh yit's so hyped!

There is talk that a lot of flight will feature, unknown whether you will need to hang onto a flying chicken or not, that a crossbow will replace the bow and arrow and the game will be called Queen of the Fairies!:o

Would be disappointed if they had proper voice acting, I love the sound-bites used in previous games.

Fingers crossed it makes it as a 2010 release, not on Nintendo release schedule yet AFAIK. E3 should hopefully give us a better idea.

Talk this Link is the hero of time which could be really intresting
    • The game will be vary from the dungeon field dungeon method we are accustomed too (nothing new, Eiji Aonuma confirmed that last year).
    • You will be able to select right or left handed at the start, and Link will be left or right handed based on your selection
    • The gameplay and basic mechanics are complete.
    • They are currently polishing up the story and Characters.
    • One of the characters they are working on is a innkeeper in Link's home village who has a son that looks up to Link.
    • The girl in the art is not the Master Sword, and it appears the Master Sword will not be in the game.
    • The girls name from the painting could possibly be Adelle, Adella, or Aderu.
    • She is not with you throughout the game like Ezlo and Midna.
    • The face in the painting of her is not her real face. It's not fully elaborated on much, but it does say that it was a place holder concept art piece.(assuming the entire art itself was just concept work)
    • Link's sword is highly unique in this game, and will have several unlockable abilities. Adelle (or whatever her final name becomes) communicates with you through this sword.
    • There will be horseback combat. Epona will avoid obstacles automatically.
    • The models for 3 significant characters in the game have been touched up, but no they are not Zelda or Ganondorf. (Google translate gives rough names of Link, Gorons, and Epona, but our translator said it's not specifically mentioned)
    • The idea of this version of Link also being The Hero of Time has been highly considered, and may already be implemented.
    • Time travel plays a role in the game.
    • The game takes place in more than just Hyrule, and may possibly not be Hyrule at all.
This is taken from Zelda informer

    EDIT
I know this isn't the best place to put it but http://3dnes.blogspot.com/
A guy remade the first level of the original snes game in 3D as an FPS you can play it on that link it's pretty cool how he did it.

Haven't really being following this but I believe nintendo said it would be a bit different from the other ones.

I'd imagine it will be a motionplus exclusive game like red steel 2 for starters.
If I was the guess I'd say link will find some fly of flying. Motionplus and flying would go great together.

The hint system implanted in games such as new super mario bros wii and super mario galaxy 2 will surely be here too.

I think this will be harder than the gamecube zeldas at least.

No, no, no! I don't know why everyone's so obsessed with the hint system. It would absolutely ruin it. Besides, a Zelda game doesn't have levels so it can't be done. It can be done in a dungeon, you say? Only a lazy-arses would use it. I truly hope Nintendo don't bring it back in future games.

This was the original patent image nintendo send for this and just taking a look at it, they certainly had Zelda in mind for this, but the 2 mario's were released first.

It wouldn't ruin it at all. Since it came nintendo have been able to make their 2 mario games far more challenging without alienating people. In super mario galaxy 2 for puzzle sections it CAN give you hints but it honestly doesn't get in the way and I never used it once.

I don't claim to know fully how it will be used in Zelda but I'd bet that it will be used and used well. No reason to think otherwise. Play super mario galaxy 2 :)

Thanks OP for the update, I had no idea there was a new one on the way.

A link to the past, Ocarina of time, windwaker (I liked it?) and Twilight princess we all immensely enjoyable.

    I don't own a wii, but I think i'll have to invest.

Ocarina story was my favourite, so i'm pretty excited about the possibility of time travel in this one :)

Supposed info leaked in advance of E3.

    http://www.glimpsedog.com/content/130-rumour-leaked-info-new-zelda-wii.html

    • Zelda Wii's official title is "The Legend of Zelda". There will be no subtitle.
    • The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time.It also answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.
    • The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game. Her Name is Zordiana.
    • The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. Now it is possible to swing with the Hookshot, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.
    • Sometimes you have to "draw" a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.
    • The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort, as the script shows.
    • There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through. Miyamoto didn't want to include it.The Normal-Mode for amateurs. The Hero-Mode has no "Super Guide" included and the enemies tougher.
    • The On-Stage Dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn't a Dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a Dungeon, you will not notice you are in one. It will be a smooth gradation. There will be Dungeons with no Bosses and Bosses with no Dungeon. The "Dungeon" you are able to play at E3 will be an Ice-Level. It will be the frist "Dungeon" in the Game.

Didn't like Twilight Princess at all to be honest. Ocarina was great simply because it was so fresh and new but my two favourites have got to be Majora's Mask and Windwaker. Absolutely loved those two.

Oh my Gawd!! It's a mix between TP and WW!! It's called Skyward Sword! =3

So, not out until next year, bit of a bummer that. But looks like it still needs tidying up so maybe it will be time well spent. I hope they dont f*ck up the control scheme and get too fixated by motion plus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,040 ✭✭✭BenK

Looks decent. Link appears a bit more grown up or mature than in previous Zeldas (or maybe it's just that the camera seems more zoomed in on him...) but the overall game style seems very familiar from those clips. Pity it's not out until next year, I will definitely be getting it anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

hmm. I watched a walkthrough over on gametrailers and the controls seem fine enough (though you look a bit like a gimp with how you hold the sword while moving, might have to train myself to hold the wii mote backwards when moving just so i dont look stupid in gameland.)

My only issue is that the last 2 zelda's went with two very striking visual styles that were very impressive (so much so that twilight princess was justifible used as an argument against the necessity of HD gaming) THis one...there is an element of polish ala cel shading that wind waker has, but the designs and colour scheme is very much ocarina of time inspired which doesnt appeal to me nearly as much as the windwaker or twilight princess visuals.

the design of the skeleton here and general texture layout is what gives me ocarina of time N64 vibes the most (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-zelda-skyward/700411)

Why is it so cartoony and over-childish..? Twilight Princess wasn't that bad. Majora's Mask wasn't that bad. Hell, even Ocarina wasn't that bad.. I mean, they were all cartoony, but not so Mario-esque.

Windwaker was over-cartoony and that's the reason I really, really didn't take to it.

I think the series needs to be matured a bit, Zelda would be a great series if they didn't make it so kiddy. Gave it a bit more darkness.

Really disappointed with this so far tbh. Damnit. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

maybe they are using the mario galaxy engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    From N-Europe:

Eiji Aonuma has said the game would have been out this year only for the fact that they had a graphic overall during the making of it that was requested by Miyamoto. The original graphics were meant to be more "browner" like Twilight Princess, but Miyamoto decided the "impressionist" look was best.

    Damn you, Miyamoto..

You take that back! It wasnt any bad :P

I have to say i was quite disappointed with the new one as well though. It just doesnt seem like much of an improvement. It basically looks like Twilight Princess, just slightly cell shaded. The combat didnt look at that much better (maybe cause they sucked ass at it). I think Zelda needs something new, and not just being able to swing your sword at different angles. I guess we'll have to wait and see what else the game has to offer.

Hopefully, they'll also stop using terrible quality audio. Nothing worse then a fantastic soundtrack being ruined by midi quality formats.

Its still a day 1 buy for me though :o

I meant in the visual style. It's my favourite of the series.

Quite possibly the least exciting trailer of E3 for me...

I'll still end up getting it, but can't get over how awful it looks!

Bit wishy washy. Looks like they couldn't decide an art style and fudged it. I would be happy with the look of Wind Waker (which, IMO was a brilliant game, regardless of what others say ;)) or Twilight Princess which I probably would have preferred.

Still, its not the finished article so I will have faith, and I also will still get it no matter how crappy or otherwise it looks!!!

It was confirmed that the game is going to use a orchestra :)

Am I the only one that kinda likes the new look? I think it's a nice middle ground between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, and has a nice stylized look all of its own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 404 ✭✭Antamojo

It's about time this series got an orchestra.
Arguably the best music for any game series, ever.

Nope, I like it too. As you say, cel-shaded adult Link is a great middle ground between WW and TP and I was very pleased when I saw it. I'm more concerned over the potentially dodgy motion controls but I have faith :)

my issue is it looks far too similar to ocarina of time for my liking.

    comparison:

    ocarina:

    skyward sword:

Its not a graphics issue, but the design of character models and setting is bit too similar.

it wouldnt be an issue except twilight princess and windwaker strived so hard to be different to prior entries...

I wouldn't necessarily agree, to my eye, that Stalfos looks like a nice middle ground between those of Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess, without overdoing the stylisation

    I like the graphics.

But I think Link looks a bit too lifelike in the legs to pull off a tunic that short :D

ETA: Ooops, I was just looking at the demo and on the tv screen it doesn't look like he's wearing pants. Just looked at another clip and I see that he has a nice pair of flesh coloured trousers on :o

Bump, cause there's been a sh!t tonne of new information released since the last post in this thread.

I have a question also. Whats the best way to get the gold Wiimote bundle with this game? Do I need to preorder? And if I do, should I do it online or at my *fairly* local Gamestop?

Latest discussion on this is happening in the Games forum (its more current than this thread).

    Might be better asking there...
