i have a 05 focus saloon, since buyin it in 07 i have the replaced the lock in the boot and the button/handle over the number plate,

the button has stopped workin again and occasionaly the boot will pop on its own and the light on the dash stays on, it still opens using the remote, any idea what the problem could be

i have my nct test on the 15 of this month and dont now if it will fail over it

    Maybe the button is stuck?

i opened it and cleaned it, there was some gunk inside it, still doesnt work
i tried it with a multimeter and no broken wires, i'm thinkin at this stage it could be a problem with the lock, but it still opens with the remote

As far as I am aware, Ford issued a modified button assembly for boot / tailgate locks. Are you sure you have the modified one?

What you can try is disconnect the button and see if it stops the boot opening by itself. If the boot continues to open then it's probably the lock.

Also, did someone fit a towbar to the car and wire it's electrics without using the proper wiring kit? If so, this can cause all sorts of electrical problems including doors going haywire. :D

the other day i had a look at the wiring and all is ok and no breaks after checking with a multi meter, i left the button disconnected and it hasnt popped itself yet but the light is still on to say there is a door open, it was sometime in 08 when i replaced the lock and button so maybe the revised one was after that, the lock was different, no towbar

Two seperate faults perhaps: the buttons causing the lock to misoperate and something else causing the light to stay on. If your car has a trip computer, are you getting a message saying that the boot / tailgate is open?

Can you get Ford to confirm if the buttons are the revised type?

Are you 100% sure theres no no wires broken. Pull back the rubber cover going into the bootlid and have a look. I've had to replace the loom going into the bootlid before.
