Sign on day and work experience?

    Hiya,
tried searching on here, but it seems I'm on my own in this situation. Basically, been on the dole for almost a year, just had a phonecall offering me 3 days of work experience down the other side of the country. As far as I know, it'll be bed and board paid for, and the experience I'm gaining to is be my actual payment. However, in those 3 days, I'll be missing my collection and sign on day (it'd be the 15th of June)

What worries me is that I also missed my last sign-on day, got the dates completely arsed up & landed in the following week for it. Guy behind the counter was quite p'd off (understandable!) I was in bits, nearly in tears leaving the office, I've been always signed on in time, so couldn't understand how I let it happen!

I know it says you can just call in and explain you've an interview and you can't collect that day, but if I say that, what happens? Do I just sign on the next day, or the following week, or month?

Also, I don't particularly want to be lying and saying I've an interview when I'll be away, and I don't want to say I'm off on holidays.... However, at this point, telling the white lie that I've an interview seems like the easiest way out.....:(...anyone any advice?

I wouldn't do any of their "work experience" placements to be honest. I've seen one advertised which is an IT position generally worth 40-50k a year, and they expect someone to do it for free. No thanks, I didn't get my certification to work for nothing, regardless of my employment status.

As for missing the signing day, just tell them you have family matters to attend to and are unavailable to accept their offer.
