College Gardens has a really good location, bang in the center between the college and town (although residents there usually get upset with the noise). College Green and Southern Gardens are always a lot of fun too.

Theres also the newer houses down by Tesco and Gala which are pretty good. very close to the town and about 10 mins walk to the college.

Then theres Green Road right across the road from the college, and southern gardens across the other side of the college.

I know a mature student who lived in a little bungalow with the old lady owner, which was on the road between green road/back entrance of college, and the FCA barracks. Just on that little stretch of road there. If you're just looking for digs then that would be fine. Otherwise, ya'll be living with students who spend their whole first year on the piss....which is great if ur up for that, but if not, it can be a pain.

Avoid The Riverbank apartments and Millbrooks. Riverbank for reason of overbearing landlords, read the lease and apartment rules, they arnt just formalities and are activily policed by the premise bouncer(to the point you cant bring girls home from nightclubs unless telling them the night before :( ). Milbrooks is in a bad area(was hit badly by the floods) and has a high drop out rate though i dont know why :P for some reason whoever lives in milbrooks does not clean their houses.. manky like :s:/ Southern Gardens is the place to be for parties, or anywhere around the college really BUT its a fair walk from tescos with two bags of shopping :/

Please remember that Southern Gardens is a residential area, not a student village and the locals do not appreciate late night parties and the mess that can sometimes come with them. There are big changes in the housing estates around the college this year.

Don't forget the Institute of Further Education...... people get that confused with the IT for some reason ;)

Carraig abhainn: **** radiators so its always freezing during the winter.
    Rent is way too high.
They have cctv and security but no alarms on the apartments. The doors are so **** they can be easily broken open. An apartment was broken into this year during the day while students were in the library.
More than likely some of your deposit will be deducted at the end of the year for damages which you will never of heard of, or which were already there.

So steer clear of that place.

Hanover Place ! Houses for rent there are great, Euro 80 a week, four bedrooms, great condition, opposite Aldi and only 8mins walk from the college. Not a party spot, because it's a small estate and somewhat hidden, but it's walking distance from anywhere worth being. Living 5 mins from The Foundry on a Thursday night made our house the perfect spot for those who didn't now when to stop :)

ohh noo dont say that :( im heading down thursday and someone recommended carraig abhainn, said it was perfect location and at least all ur bills are paid so it works out the same as a cheaper place with the bills etc.. and the location is meant to make it worth it.. :S
okay so southern gardens is good then, and close, but residents get annoyed with noise, yes?.. would southern gardens be the place to go? thanks :)

Have a look on IT Carlow website. I'm looking for accommodation there too. Hope to go there next week to sort out something. I saw another post of yours under a similar topic. You are looking for accommodation too, right?
I'm a mature student and hope to find somewhere quiet. I'll probably need to share and may look for digs, dunno yet. If I see something of interest I could let you know.
    All the best.

I have had a look thanks. I am looking for accommodation, but I think we're looking for different places. I'm looking to live with younger people. Thanks anyway, good luck with the house hunt.

Im living now 2 years in Carraigh Abhainn. The rent is high, but Im oki to pay 100 per week for having a big room with 2 beds ,desk and bathroom. Its really quiet this year witch is a bit annoying.Nobody didn't take nothing from my deposit. BTW the security guy is not here to protect you or your stuff, He only protects the appartaments from drunk students :)

    Hey,

Starting my first year in Carlow IT this September. I need some people to share accommodation with; some of the houses into which I've inquired only accept groups at a time. Problem is it's only the well priced houses which follow this policy, from what I can see., and I'm not on a high budget.,

I would really appreciate if some could explain to me how a suitable forum could be set up in aid of my request, (because I can't do it) and/or if some of you guys&gals would be interested in sharing a place. Cheers

hey i'm in your own situation, can't answer your question but i'd be willing to share the place if there is some available!
    bye

Hey, thanks for the reply- it's good to see someone's expressed an interest already; it seems that most of the arrangements made for student accommodation are generally done in August when a flurry of bookings are made by the recent leaving cert students, having only received the long-awaited results.!

As for the minute, though, I'd be interested in sharing acc. with you, and I'd say more people will want to
    Jump on the bandwagon :)

...come August time. So, in other words, there's no rush to fill spaces. Hopefully we'd be able to recruit a few more in the meantime.

Perhaps we could share information with each other about good deals we've come across, cheap houses, e.t.c.? Tell me what you think anyway, cheers

    Hi

I am also looking for accommodation starting September. I am starting first year as a mature student. (25yr old male here). Hard to find a place when you know no one and live far away from Carlow itself...that said, exciting times lay ahead!

    HI

Usually students rents rooms in student houses rather than a whole house because they usually dont know enough people or because they prefer to live on their own. Usually the college provides a lists of accommodation but decided not to this year. Maybe google it carlow accommodation 2010, this will give you last years lists of houses but i would say nearly everyone on the list will be renting this year aswell.

Could you answer two points for me:

    1. Are you registered with the PRTB?
    2. What is the BER for your house?

    Thanks

I know of a house that has rooms to rent to students. It's just off Barrack Street in Carlow, overlooking Tesco and right in the centre of things. Less than 10 mins walk to the IT. Registered with PRTB and has a C2 BER. Single rooms with double beds, study desk etc. for 60 a week. PM me if you want more details

I've just graduated from IT Carlow and had the best year of my life :) I lived in carraig abhainn, yeah they are ****ty prices and expensive but its ideal for making friends and getting to know people. Every year a group of 'carraig-abhainners' move in and become really close and have house parties within the estate and the security guards are sound they've only ever shut 2 of our parties down! If your a first year looking for the craic go to carraig abhainn for defo :)
