Its a Peugeot 206 1.4 petrol , and the STOP light started flashing .
Then noticed that the temp gauge was at 90 degrees

The needle started moving up and down from zero to 90

It seemed to be low in coolant , so have re-filled this evening

Anyone any ideas -- I hope it aint the head gasket .................could it be just summer over-heating ?

Did the car lose power by any chance?

Could be a faulty temperature switch, or possibly the head gasket

Its in the garage since 10am and we hav'nt heard since .........hoping thats good news .

Last thing we need to hear is that its the HG ..............but the coolant is not leaking and must be going somewhere ........Lots of blue smoke too on the way to the garage

Be ready to hear it is the head gasket. Sounds like it could be gone. Car was probably burning off the coolant.

Yep- Got the bad news - Its the Head Gasket - told it will cost around 800 e

The car never overheated though - We do a lot of short journeys around town - stop/start driving , but never enough for it to overheat .
