I am looking to find a good quality Glockenspiel to add to my bands sound but, I don't know what one to purchase. I want something which sounds great but isn't overly priced!??

Also, what one does Bloc Party and Two Door Cinema Club use because that is the sound I am looking for??

    OK where are you?

Im in dublin so ill tell you what i know. Music maker have a little glock in a blue case for about €50 and it looks alright. Looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEAZhgu9E88

Waltons have a glock for €40. To be fair it looks like something from playschool, its very colourful and is mounted on wood but i bought it and its great to be honest. The sound is beautiful: http://www.myspace.com/bandmanhattan - Listen to "old city" for example (shameless plug :P ) (pps, were currently in the studio recording so ignore the quality)

Just pop in and try both!

Good post to see - I'm currently looking for a big xylophone but getting no love with the cost of them!

I have that blue glockenspiel the previous poster was talking about and it is great. We've used it in recordings and it's all sounded good. However! If I was doing it all again, from playing a few different ones, I would be on the lookout for ones with slightly thicker bars than the one I have. The tone seems to be a little mellower - probably depends on the type of music you're looking to record with. I've used it so much that I think a bigger (more orchestral) set-up would suit me but like I said, that small blue Angel Glockenspiel has been a joy to play.

FYI if you wanted to hear a sample, check out The Love Song on www.myspace.com/thelasttycoons. It comes in towards the end.

Yeah ive heard that blue glock live too and it sounds very small though! thhe one i hae in waltons sounds much more prominent! The sticks with the blue one, are they rubber on the top?? the waltons one is just wood. When we recorded with our glock all i had to do to get a full sound was double the track!

I have the one in the youtube video. It's very harsh sounding I think. I got another one from xmusic for €80 which was much nicer. I'd ring xmusic first if you want to check one out as I only saw it by chance and no sign of one on their website.

There's a great one in McCullough Piggotts for 200.
