EB licence - why don't I have one?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I passed my test a few weeks ago, and when I got my licence it had the categories B and W - fine I thought. However, both my parents seem to have the B box ticked under the E+ section (I assume that's EB) for heavy trailers (I think), but they never did a test for it.

Why is this? Am I qualified, with a full B licence, to have any trailers, or am I allowed to tow trailers assuming it's below a certain weight/size limit?

No you are not supposed to have an EB license. You're parents passed at a time when EB was included with a B license by default i presume. Just like the way an "M" moped license used to be something you would get upon passing your B license, but this was removed 3~ years ago.

EDIT a standard B license does allow you to carry a trailer, i think up to a weight of 750KG, but i know there is more to it than that. I just can't remember!

I wonder will they remove the tractor entitlement in the future? It is considered heavy machinery and I can't think of other countries that give it automatically?:confused::confused:

If you've a full licence in categories B, C1, C, D1 or D, you can tow a trailer with a maximum GVW of 750kg. This is the maximum permissible laden weight of the trailer, so if you've a trailer that weighs 300kg but you can carry 500kg on it, you can't tow it, even when empty (unless the next part applies).

In category B, you can also tow a trailer if the GVW of the trailer is less than the Unladen Weight of the car/van and the combination of both GVWs is less than 3500kg.

A category W licence includes a trailer, so if you've anything heavier than 750 tow it with a tractor. ;)

which is all a bit mad as a 16 year old can drive a 10000kg tractor towing a 5000kg low loader with a 30000 kg digger at speeds of up to 50kph on his own but when he turns 17 he cant drive a micra with out a qualified accompanied driver until he passes his test, i mean which could he do more damage with?

just an example of the brains behind the rsa:pac:

I have an EB licence with W and M. Not telling you how I got it though :P let's just say I didn't do an EB test.

    *looks at your licence*
Why is this licence written on a leaf?

You may have got it by passing a trailer test in a larger category. Those who pass a bus and trailer test or a truck and trailer test are automatically given a EB.

...Or you may have obtained it when EB, C1 and EC1 were given by default with a B licence.
