I've just bought a Canon 55-250 IS lens and the Image Stabilizer is noisy, I mean noisy to the ear, not noisy as in grainy. I have an 18-55 IS and it doesn't make noise, should I return the new lens to shop?

I had the 70-300 IS and was quite noisy, I'd imagine the IS on the 18-55 doesn't need to "work" as hard as it isn't so far reaching.

100-400 and 70-200 IS are noisy too, so normal behaviour.

Is it not just the auto-focus? My 75-300 sounds like Johnny-5 on a friday night.

:D:D:D, no, its definitely the IS, switching it in and out proved that for me.
Is your 75-300 a non USM?
