    Ok I am stumped.

Want to take a week in July. Myself & husband (age 30)

We like a great beach/pool scene. No package type hol, ie Spain etc. Like long haul but doesnt have to be.(only have a week) Like a good 5 star/ luxury type holiday. Enjoy all inclusive but doesnt have to be.

    Open to suggestions, thanks :)

Sorry should say we dont want to be stuck in a Ibiza uncovered type place, not big into night clubbing but like good food & drink. Main objective is relaxing eating & drinking.

Stayed twice in the Hotel Los Jameos Playa in Lanzarote.
Situated on the far end of Porto del Carmen new town ( airport side ). Quite, but not too far civilised nightlife. Not much for larger louts here.
4*hotel, Buffet food, themed nights, both pre-prepared food and meat and fish stands at which they cook in front of you. Outstanding quality, Half board is more than sufficient.
Straight across the road from the beach. Nice promenade.
Nice to walk into Porto del Carmen new town or on again to Porto del Carmen old (harbour) town.
Only 10 mins drive from airport but no noise, we didn't bother with the bus, got a taxi. Taxi's here are very cheap.

    Thanks for the recomendation

I think we are def trying to avoid the Spain/Canarys/ type holiday.

I suppose we are aiming more to something more long haul. Dubai keeps cropping up although Im a little put off by the recent arrests....

How about South of France, Nice or Cannes or somewhere in Provence? Has a holiday atmosphere and the Med but is a far cry from a package holiday. It would be a great place for eating out and walking along the seafront and that.

You could try Northern Spain also? If you stay away from Salou you wont be too near the package holiday scene.

Begur is a lovely town, my parents go there each year. It is where alot of rich Barceloans have weekend houses. It has great restaurants, a jazz club, and a lovely plaza in the centre of the town surrounded by bars. and there is loads to do and see around it. There are a few touristy towns around it, they cater mostly fro French and Spanish tourists.

Hi there. I would recommend a cruise - it sounds like it fits the bill of what you are looking for. we went from Miami with RC and stopped in Mexico, Belize and the Caymen islands. You could do as little or as much as you wanted to. We had never done a cruise before and were a bit dubious about it but I'd so one again in a heartbeat. The food was beautiful too. The ship was so massive and luxurious that we didn't get cabin fever, although 7 days was enough. Price was also excellent, including flights and all food it came in well under 1k pp for the seven day. Sign, would love to go back..Best of luck what ever you choose.

    Egypt, Red Sea?

Tropicalsky.ie has luxury beach holidays in loads of places. Kenya looks great.

Going by what you say you're looking for I reckon the Maldives could be an ideal option for you. Maybe a bit far to go for a week?

Sorrento is beautiful too. Very Italian and really beautiful towns and scenery nearby - Positano, Amalfi, Ravello - recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for all the suggestions, some great ones there.

Re the cruise, can you tell me where you booked through? Sounds like something I'd be interested in.

Maldives is perfect alright but prob a little far for a week, (maybe some day!)

www.kuoni.co.uk might be worth a view, they're supposed to be very good and seem to fulfil your requirements. only problem is having to go via UK.

Hey, we booked the cruise through a 'Travel Councilor' Mary Foyle 0868512853. She took care of booking the flights and the cruise and I would highly recommend her. It worked out cheaper than if I had booked it through Royal Caribbean. The ship we went on was 'Liberty of the seas'. We also added on two nights in Miami after the cruise which was well worth doing.
