    Hi

Anyone got insight on the potential new Apple TV coming out this week?

In his interview at the D8 it didn't sound too optimistic that they where working on a new Apple TV however Steve Jobs is the master of misdirection.

    Some info here

I'd say if it is announced, it probably wont be until the WWDC.

There was a rumour going around last week that the next Apple TV would be like an iphone without the screen with storage being in the cloud. No dates given.

I reckon it was just a ploy from Jobs to throw people off the scent. A quote from him at D8:

The only way that's going to change is if you tear up the set top box, give it a new UI, and get it in front of consumers in a way they're going to want it.

This is what Apple will do, although they will have to have some subscription plans in place. No one will want to pay $2 per episode to watch their favorite series, it would be much to costly for the consumer.

It also makes the rumored $99 price point of the Next Gen ATV more credible, as Steve says nobody wants to buy a box. This is true to an extent, but I think people would pay for a Set Top Box which is more functional than the conventional boxes.

With Google releasing their Google TV in the upcoming months, I dont think Apple will take this lying down. I wouldn't expect an ATV announcement until September. The rumored iTunes Cloud service will revolve around the device too, although there is talk that it will be announced next week.
