It appears from a leaked report that the Israeli embassy in Dublin was behind the forged Irish passports used in the assasination in Dubai, and the Irish government is getting ready to expel an Israeli offical there:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0602/breaking43.html

Should Irish citizens tolerate having their security and the integrity of our nation compromised in this way by members of a foreign embassy in our country?

Piggery by the Israeli government (whom I presume ordered him to do it. Or maybe it was the secret service?) . They think the can do anything.

It's like deja vu all over again ...

BOO Israel, you are very naughty people.

There, said it - can we please move on now - there are many, many other causes which whilst equally worthy, are much less tedious.

Forging Irish passports for use in an assassination is not something that should be discussed?

I'd say they were probably under instruction from Mossad. They seem to think they can do whatever the hell they want. Just look at the retaliation killings after the Munich attacks where Mossad agents just went around killing suspects without informing the authorities in the countries they were operating in.

It has been discussed...for a few weeks when it happened.

Can't remember where I read it, but apparently some CIA case officer said that Dublin was used as a European meeting place for international espionage because it's quite neutral ground for everyone involved. Probably bull, but still fun to think of really.

"Hi, I am a mossad officer here to kill a guy in this country, that cool?"

Yeah, I wouldn't look for permission either TBH.

Having travelled quite extensively I was appaled when the assassins behind the Dubai hit was shown to have travelled on Irish passports. The integretity of Ireland reputation abroad cannot be quantified and has been hard earned through fiar and unbiased work through out various aid organisations as well as individual performances within various international organisations. I am refering to Irish charities work abroad, Irish clergy missions in the main, Irelands role as peace observers within the UN as well as our historic role of neutrality, and perceived independence of Britain within former colonies.

This hard arned reputation is one of our great national treasures. Any attempts by foreign governements and intelligence agencies to inpinge our reputaton needs to be treated extremely seriously. Persoanlly I was quite annoyed by the lack of government action taken when the facts of the case came out. It now appears that the recent events in the east Mediteranian has spurred the governement to now take action on this issue, many months after Britain and Australia did the same.

Whislt the governement has refused to expell the Israeli ambassador over the Gaza flotilla, I really hope they have set in place procedures in order that further forgeries of Irish passports never happen again. Certainly there is reason to expect that the Israeli ambassador and his staff should be monitered quite closely, so that Israel cannot be allowed to use international goodwill towards bearers of Irish passports to aid their military organisation carry out illegal acts abroad.

This is breaking news, up until now - given the Israeli ambassador to Ireland's denials - it was all speculation.

If you don't want to discuss it... dont.

If this is all true , the Israeli embassy should be closed and their diplomats asked to leave. Can we really tolerate this from any state?

Or they could have just asked the authorities to arrest the guys they were after.

I believe the approach they took may have resulted in innocents being shot.

And this was done on our own soil.

We have an enemy in our backyard.

Yeah, and Eric Bana STILL hasn't been arrested for it!

And arresting them would do what? The Israeli's have always been into the revenge sort of thing, heavy handed maybe, but TBH, if there were Irish citizens murdered abroad in such a manner, then I wouldn't be put out even slightly if the people involved met unsavoury ends.

Are you joking me? There is no way we can condone terrorist actions like this in our country.

    The fact that Israeli's are using government official's to further their terrorist action's should come as no surprise but Ireland all of a sudden condoning these actions would;
The Irish government followed a similar line to other EU governments during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict, with the Irish Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, condemning the actions of Israel as "reckless and disproportionate" and calling for an immediate ceasefire on both sides, while also condemning the actions of Hezbollah.[89] During the conflict, a shipment of bombs that attempted to land in Ireland from USA to Tel Aviv was denied use of Irish airspace and airfields by the Irish Government. The weapons were part of a series of agreed arms shipments between the United States Government and Israel. The shipments were diverted via Scotland, where they also caused controversy.[9
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_relations_of_Israel#Ireland
It's good to see that Ireland are able to condemn Israel when they commit atrocities. Of course Ireland will condemn Hezbollah or Hamas - that goes without saying - but at least it seems Ireland are able to get past ideological blinkers and refuse to take part in this.

I think Irish citizens should let their voices be heard if the government refuses to take action with this official. Some people were able to protest refueling of ships in Shannon over the Iraq war, are able to protest when their government pull fast ones with banks so they are surely able to protest if their government attempts to ignore terrorism (and justice) when a foreign embassy member acts as accomplice with hitmen.

^^Perhaps we should wait for the report before stating that someone was an accomplce for hitmen?

Once we get our citizens back, we need to expel a Israeli diplomat at a bare miminum, like the UK has done.

Would attacking, ransacking and subsequently burning down their embassy be too much of an over-reaction?

Israel should be severly punished for their actions in recent times. They do whatever they like acting like they have immunity. The propaganda they use is on the same level of that seen in North Korea. There should be a boycott of trading with Israel. What they do is unjust and they break so many laws and violate peoples' human rights at will. They do not believe in a fair trial system. I'm sick of this policy of appeasement that every country has with Israel. The only reason Israel still exists is due to Americaa supplying them with arms and aid. In my opinion, Israel is a state sponsor of terrorism which is a term applied by the United States Department of State to nations which are designated "to have repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism."

Absolutely ridiculous, Israel's always acted the dick therefore its ok? There's a right way and wrong way to deal with international situations, other countries can follow internationally agreed procedure (or at least a lot closer to it) why not Israel?

I'm beginning to think the Israeli government is inadvertently encouraging anti-semitism. One diplomatic incident after another, one more nail in the coffin of Israel's international credibility. They have actually done more harm to the Semitic reputation in 60 years then in the past 200. You get the impression that they're balancing on the edge of destruction. The two latest incidents make Israel look very, very bad. I wouldn't be surprised to see countries cutting off diplomatic relations with them.

Well, ya know, Ted Bundy's always been into the murdering women sort of thing, heavy handed maybe, but... blah blah blah. shite argument.

You should read about the so-called 'self-hating jew' Norman Finkelstein. He's got this amazing movie out at the moment and it's on youku, fascinating stuff.

I dont think its antisemetic to critise a government that has bombed civilian area,s and has used missiles to kill un soldiers/observers ,i regard it as a war crime to destroy civilian infrastructure and buildings .
They are punishing the whole civilian population by the blockade in an effort to weaken hamas.
I DO NOT support hamas in any way . I think there use of passports from the uk ,eire etc has weakened their status as a so called law abiding country .BY their actions in the past 6 months they are losing the public relations battle.
I have no wish to discriminate against any person because they belong to a certain religious group.

And would you be at all bothered if Mossad agents were carrying out these heavy handed tactics in Ireland.

Absolutely not. Perhaps I'm being overly sceptical but I doubt the Irish Government would have the stones to see it through assuming this report is true.

ireland should break all diplomatic ties. When Israel used the passports they stepped over the mark.

I find it funny how everybody thinks that this time Israel will be punished. You say anything negative about Israel and you're labled as an anti-semite, you bring aid to the Palestinians, and you're labled a sponserer of terrorism.

Israel could nuke Canada and they would get away with it, and still have support.

I think if Libya or Iran had done this to a bunch of european countries there would be absolute hell to pay & israel would be at the forefront of calling for strict measures. I don't see why israel should be permitted to treat the eu with this level of contempt - it's not as if this is a one off isolated 'blip' in their behaviour it's more a part of a pattern of disrespect and weasel words and contempt in my view.
